The food was reasonable in taste, price, and quantity but the service was some of the worst I've had in the area.
First off, we got charged an extra $5.50 for 2 canned soda (according to Google translate) that we didn't buy. The receipt was in korean so I figured that the extra charge was a table fee or similar and paid it, but was surprised when I ran it through google translate on the way home.
Secondly, our experience ordering was a total mess. We don't speak Korean and were assigned a server who didn't speak any English. This is usually fine and we're typically able to figure things out but the menu had some issues which made the situation difficult.
First off, several of the drinks on their drinks menu weren't available. When we tried to order one of them our server seemed really confused and walked away. We thought she went to check with someone but she ended up cooking meat for another table and never came back. We didn't finish ordering until a different server came by and noticed that we hadn't ordered yet.
Secondly, we ordered only 1 portion of meat and, after some struggle, were able to figure out that they only cook meat at your table if you order at least 2 portions. They offered to cook the meat in the kitchen if we only wanted 1. This is fairly typical so we happily asked for the meat to be cooked in the kitchen.
Problem is that when the meat came out it was clearly stir fried with some sauce and not barbequed. I found this pretty unusual as other KBBQ places usually grill the meat in the kitchen. I asked the manager (who does speak english) and was told that because we ordered thin sliced bulgolgi it's always stir fired with a wet sauce. If that's the case then they really need to remove it from the barbeque section of their menu...
Thirdly, we ordered a vege bibimbap but they gave us a meat one which is $10 more.
The manager was nice enough to let us switch to a different (more expensive) meat that is actually barbequed in the kitchen, but honestly this whole episode was very annoying. I wish the original server would've just found someone who speaks English to take our order instead of hoping for the best and getting a bunch of things wrong in...
Read moreWent with my family tonight around 5 pm. There was just one other table besides us. Pretty soon the place got pretty busy. We ordered the D set which comes with thinly sliced beef, marinated beef and two orders of cold noodles. The thinly sliced beef came out first. The waitress placed half the meat onto the charcoal grill and left. My mother-in-law saw that the meat was beginning to burn so she started cooking the meat herself. The waitress came back, apologized and moved the meat around and told us it would be ready to eat as soon as the red disappeared (duh). With that, she also disappeared.
We asked for our cold noodles and they tried to give them to the next table where the men were really confused saying they didn't order that. We flagged down the waitress and said that was ours. Next was the marinated beef. That too we mostly cooked ourselves.
We ordered 2 more servings of pork ribs but after we finished everything, it was a waiting game. We ended up cancelling that extra order. We asked for the check and we also waited and gave up. We could have just walked out. The hostess had no clue. She was thanking us for coming. We said we need to pay and boy was she surprised! Our bill still had the pork ribs that never came so we told her and she radioed the waitresses asking if we cancelled the pork ribs. Upon confirmation she finally took the order off. I think my father-in-law was being generous by tipping at all. It really felt like we were at that "No Tip" restaurant where guests grill their own meat. But at least that restaurant is more affordable and organized. When we explained that we cancelled our order after waiting indefinitely the hostess apologized and gave us a coupon for a bottle of soju for next time.
So the meat was okay. I liked the marinated beef. It was soft and flavorful but the cold noodles were flavorless. Of course we would have enjoyed our food more if the service was better. Glad we went once but there are a lot of Korean BBQ restaurants within a mile radius so I suggest you go...
Read moreAMAZING experience... Food is excellent, service is perfect! We had a party of 8 and came for my mother's birthday dinner. Made reservations in advance as it was for Sunday night 6:00PM. Plenty of parking in the back and the restaurant was quite spacious. Apparently they use CHARCOAL to cook the food, giving it a nice aroma and smokey taste. Server was very helpful in helping us choose the food. The only issue for us (if you can even call it that) was that the food sounded amd looked so good... We ordered too much! Try as we might, we couldn't finish all the dishes and ended up taking some home. The highlight was the marinated kalbi short ribs, which my BIL had to resist gorging all for himself as it was so mouth watering DELICIOUS! We had 2 portions of the pork belly, the seafood pancake (yum!), buckwheat noodles, fried dumplings, spicy octopus and chap chae. I don't drink much liquor but sister ordered a bottle of white wine and we had Terra beer (never heard of it but was very tasty). The owner (very nice lady, unfortunately I forgot to get her name) came over several times to ask if everything was satisfactory. Our server was quite the professional and cooked all our food for us. It's a bit out of the way for me (I live in downtown Manhattan) but well worth the visit and for sure will return! (On a side note, apparently the karaoke mentioned earlier is also owned by the restaurant so you can have a full night of fun after this...
