Came here to satisfy a Japanese curry craving - mission accomplished! We arrived as a party of two around half past noon on a Saturday. There are 8 or so parking spaces in the side and back of the restaurant with street meter parking available on the main road. The restaurant was about half full when we entered, and we were promptly seated at a 4-person table. The staff speak fluent English, but having a Korean speaker is a plus. The menus are not the newest or cleanest, but all the important information is clear, and they even provide some instructions on how to order and helpful tips! The servers were very prompt with ice water for the table, and they have additional soft drinks and other beverages available for purchase. The eating area is fairly spacious with ample distance between tables to have a sense of personal space. The decor was a mix of modern design with wooden furniture - reflective of their modern approach to traditional flavors in their curry.
We ordered the basic curry rice and beef curry noodle, with the free garlic and green onions, along with fried chicken and pork cutlet on the side. The spice levels here are quite good. Level 1 is akin to the instant noodle Shin Ramen, level 2 is close to the basic volcano noodle challenge, level 3 is around the 2x volcano noodle, and the spicy guru we were afraid to try. They also have combos available for a small discount on the a la carte prices, and they offer tteokbokki for those interested in rice cakes.
After ordering, our food came out after about 10 minutes. The curry flavors were excellent and hit the spot for our Japanese curry craving. There was a small bowl of soup that came with the curry rice. The noodles were very long and carried the curry quite well. The amount of beef in the noodles was on the smaller side. Thankfully, we had our extra toppings. The fried chicken was very lightly battered, crispy, and moist. The pork cutlet was a good size, and the crunch on the coating was delectable. They also had a small lettuce salad with a thousand-island-like dressing that came with the toppings. We were both quite full after finishing everything.
In total, our meal with two entrees and two toppings came out to just shy of $50 plus tax and tip. The quality of the food was excellent, everything was delicious, the service was wonderful, with a warm atmosphere surrounded by others enjoying the food around you. It's definitely a jewel for Japanese curry in the area. We will certainly be...
Read moreOne of my favorite places to stop at whenever we’re in the area. If you’re craving Korean katsu and curry, or if you’ve never tried it and want to give it a go, this is the place!
There are about 4-6 parking spots in its small lot. There is also street parking available, but it may be metered; we are always able to get a lot spot so can’t say for sure about street parking.
Plenty of seating inside the restaurant. We are always seated immediately, no reservation needed. Fast and friendly service. Food comes out quickly every time.
Lots of different things on the menu to choose from. Curry rice, noodles, pasta, donburi, and a few more. I believe they also have a lunch special on weekdays.
I recommend trying the curry rice. You can choose a protein (or no protein if you prefer), different spiciness levels from Mild - Spicy Guru (super spicy). You can also add additional toppings at a small surcharge. Green onion and garlic flake toppings are free/included with curry rice. It is also served with a small side of miso soup. I always get Pork Curry Rice (Mild). I can’t tolerate eating spicy foods and I think Mild is not spicy at all, so don’t be intimidated by the wording if you’re the same.
Overall, I highly recommend trying out Abiko Curry in NJ. Same delicious taste as its New York counterpart, but way less traffic to deal with! Dishes are always cooked well and taste amazing. Their pork curry rice is...
Read moreGreat place and awesome food, always go for the curry rice lunch special... but they seem to bother ALL my friends often about tipping because they don't leave cash on the table (they always intend to tip on card and you pay up front at the register) but the workers sour attitudes and pushing them to tip is pretty rude.
We all always tip, but if you ask us for it then we feel a lot less comfortable doing it because you're basically saying "hey give me some of your money" when we were on a great note already. Today two of my friends got the lunch special and went to pay; they asked to split the check but they accidentally charged one friend for the whole thing, which they did fix right away but they asked for him to tip and he declined afterwards because they were very rude about it. He walks out and my other friend is inside paying his half, then he asks him to call back the first one or tip for both of them, so the second friend also declined to tip. Very rude experience and this is like the 4th time this has happened.
We're in the process of finding another curry house sadly. The lunch special price and food quality is undeniably great but the servers are overstepping their boundaries asking people to tip before they get...
