We came for lunch to the Peaks Restaurant. It was busy and we had a party of 6. They said about a 20-25 min wait and we came back then and were told another 20 mins. This restaurant is passing itself off as "fancy", why can't they afford buzzers/pagers for people to let them know when their table is ready? We had 2 young kids who were starving hungry and the host taking wild guesses at how long the wait was. Frustrating. Then they jammed 3 chairs into a 2 chair side of a table, didn't give us a drink list, poured us some lukewarm tap water, and asked for our drink order. Well we had to ask for the drink menu, then waited 20 minutes for our drinks to come. During which time I checked their wine list for the "gouge factor". I was amused to see markups of over 350% as compared to supermarket prices. I get that the restaurant is up 8500ft on top of San Jacinto mountain but this is still a disgusting markup. Maybe next they will be charging an additional $100 for a ride back down the mountain seeing as they seem so gleefully unashamed of using their lack of competition up there to hold wine drinkers hostage.
Moving on to the food experience, 3 of our party ordered the "Boursin cheese steak sandwich", $22. It sounded great, sirloin steak, chimichurri, awesome! Except there was no discernable trace of Boursin and definitely no chimichurri. The coup de grace however, was the mound of fat and gristle they were attempting to pass off as "top sirloin steak." All three of us who ordered this pathetic embarrassment had piles of fat and gristle on our plates that were about equal to half the size of the mound of "meat" in the whole sandwich. 3 for 3. So this was not a one off scenario. My daughter had the kids mac and cheese, and it had a pretty leathery film on it, probably from being scooped out of a pot and left to sit for 30 minutes while the chef crammed table scraps into our sandwiches.
All of this left me thinking, this is going to be a reduced tip. Maybe 10%. However, this establishment has gone the route of "automatic 20% gratuity for parties of 6 or larger." And they still have the shameless audacity to put suggested tipping options of 3%,5%,7% on their point of sale terminal. Left with little choice left, this is why you are now (still hopefully) reading my long winded review of this sorry excuse for a restaurant.
The 2 stars are for the view and the humor derived from reading their extortionate...
Read moreWe made reservations for our 2 year anniversary dinner up on PSP mountain. We scheduled it for 6pm but was told from tramway to get here early to make it up so we got their at 4:30pm and had to wait until Peaks restaurant opened at 5:00pm. We asked if they could get us in early and they did. We got sat down and told seater we were celebrating our 2 year anniversary and was told “OK” we were waiting 5 mins before someone came to us. They poured us water and said they would be right back. We looked at menu and figured out what we would like and thinking from prices it would be good food while waiting for waiter to come back. We ordered our drinks and food at same time. I got spaghetti with $12 chicken and she got pulled pork Mac and cheese. We also told waiter it was our 2 yr anniversary dinner and was told “congrats”. We waited 20-30mins for food then arrived. Both our drinks were empty at that time and nobody offered to fill them up yet. Once we got the food in they basically set the food down and left, no asking anything else. I tried the garlic bread and trust me it was harder than a rock. I started to eat pasta and cut up my chicken and didn’t see any steam from food and worried me. I started eating chicken because they cut it up in thin slices before it came out. I ate a piece of chicken and it was cold still but looked cooked. So I ate it aside and ate my pasta and it was like rubbery. I ate it though but was not worth $23 + $12 for chicken =$35 On the other hand the mac and cheese was still very cold on bottom but warm on top with little to no flavor for $28 We did tell waiter it had no flavor and both dishes were still cold/slightly frozen and was told “we can take the chicken off for you” and she brought the pasta dish back to kitchen. We also still didn’t get any refills while eating. We were waiting for her to come back and then asked if we wanted refills and stayed “yes please” she brought refill back and check for $83 roughly without tip. And free dessert. I should of said more about this price because what we went through for a 2 yr anniversary dinner was beyond unacceptable for all of this. I would not recommend this place at all from what we experienced and disappointed In...
Read moreThis place has very limited seating, so make sure you make a reservation if you plan to have a meal here. Thank god we made one a few days before or we wouldn’t have been able to try it. For the most part I enjoyed my food, the reason I didn’t give it 4 or 5 stars is mostly due to service.
We arrived at 6:30pm for our reservation and were seated within a few minutes. Once seated we ordered our drinks and appetizers along with our main meals. The drinks and appetizers took about 20 mins to come. Which by the way we’re great. We got the shrimp and beef carpaccio. They also serve bread, but the butter wasn’t too great. Moving along, our mains didn’t come to us almost for another hour. I got the chicken which tasted amazing but it was accompanied with potatoes and carrots. They were literally just boiled and out on the plate. Too bland for my liking. When we got our mains I asked for a Pepsi refill which I got after I finished eating my meal. My friend got the gnocchi and disliked it. I don’t recommend it. We got three desserts. The best was the chocolate brownie. The portion was really big as well. We got our bill and our server disappeared. The restaurant cleared out and we began to stress because the second last tram was about to leave and nobody came to collect our money. After waiting about 10 mins and trying to flag people down, I walked into the kitchen area and requested my server to come out so we can pay and leave.
Overall, it’s worth checking out, but don’t have super high hopes...
