I was so happy to see the red barn restaurant open, until I actually went in to pick up an order. They were wanting to charge me $37.+ for 2 bacon double cheeseburgers!!! I couldn't bring myself to pay THAT amount of money for just 2 burgers! I apologized to the cashier, but just couldn't bring myself to pay that much! The burgers was $15 each, plus tax. I realized that they were charging me a $5 tip. They add the tip and then add the tax!!! Do NOT waist your time by parking in the lot. It would be cheaper to drive 17 miles to McDonald's in Salem, then to eat here!! Unless they sell this place, I will never be back!!!! Shame on those who set the prices there. I felt violated for sure! Not long after I posted this review, the owner stated that they didn't charge me a $5 tip. Ok, let's do the math. Two bacon double cheeseburgers menu price is $15. The 7% sales tax on $30 is $2.10. So if $30+$2.10= $32.10, WHY did the cash register read $37.45?!? It's because they tried to charge a tip and THEN charge me tax on THAT tip! I went tonthis place, 6 months ago and when people check out, they ask us if we wanted to leave a tip. In 60 years, I've never been asked to leave a tip, ever! It puts you on the spot and you feel guilty to say no. I decided to give the place a second chance, and they tried to secretly charge a tip anyway! Restaurants that are run this way, always fail. I'll wait for the next owner before I pay $30 for two burgers. The ZNBC news this morning had a story about burger places in NYC. They were $7.50! So obviously the prices at red Barn are gouged because of greed. It's shameful and maybe illegal. I'll ask my attorney on that one. Subway is across the street....do yourself a favor and go...
Read moreThis is my second time eating there , the first being back in August or so and sadly the quality and service has taken a nose dive. We were a big table (4 adults , 3 kids) and a relative ordered Broccoli Salad and she said it was bad, I tasted it and it was, spoiled Broccoli I bet. She returned the side and got a salad. As we ate my wife and I had ordered the Broccoli/cheese soup and I took one bite and it was awful..I mean horrible as in spoiled , my wife tried it as well and agreed. We told the young waitress and I asked her if they used the same Broccoli in both the soup and Broccoli salad to which she did not reply to my question. Some of the group had fries and they were a little overdone, 3 of us had the special which was Stroganoff which was mediocre at best. Literally I can say not a single thing I put in my mouth was actually good, much less great (with the exception of the side salads which are fairly impossible to ruin as long as your raw lettuce, tomatoes, croutons, cheese etc isn’t old)..
The only positive about the experience was the waitress was nice, however her taking a 10 minute trip to the bathroom right in the middle of our meal leaving no one to wait on the customers put a damper on that as well.
Honestly I don’t know if I will ever come back, as of now I doubt it highly.
Note: some of the people in my group said they thought another worker was supposed to cover for our waitress...
Read moreAte there for the first time this evening. Nice little mom & pop type joint. Wife had the tenderloin sandwich and she said she had better but it was good. She got a salad and cole slaw to go with it. Salad was about standard; basic lettuce, tomato and croutons. She said the Cole slaw was really good.
I got a double cheese burger and Mac & Cheese. Burger was good, hand made patties with lots of cheese. The Mac & Cheese left a lot to be desired. It was regular macaroni but the cheese looked and tasted like that cheap boxed stuff college students live on. Got fries as a replacement, which they charged for, were very good. Golden brown, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.
Overall, prices were fair and, you could tell the server was relatively new but, she did a fine job. Even took a little ribbing over not having brown grave for the hamburger steak 😀. Oh, I got the banana cream pie and wife got coconut cream pie. Both were excellent....
