A Midwest Miracle: The Unbeatable Value of Yamato in Paoli, Indiana In the heart of the Midwest, where quality sushi and authentic Japanese fare can often come with city prices (or questionable freshness), Yamato stands out as a genuine culinary anomaly. Simply put, this is the best value Japanese food I have ever encountered, and it's quickly become my non-negotiable favorite in Indiana. The quality of the food here is truly remarkable, especially considering the location. The fish, whether you're ordering a classic nigiri or one of their imaginative specialty rolls, is exceptionally fresh—far surpassing what you'd typically expect in a small, landlocked town. Every dish, from the perfectly executed tempura to the rich, flavorful yakisoba, speaks to a commitment to genuine ingredients and careful preparation. This is not just "good for Indiana"; this is simply good food. Now, let's talk about the price. It's almost unbelievable. The pricing here is what makes Yamato a five-star experience; you get high-end quality for what feels like unspeakably low prices. It’s hard to imagine another Japanese restaurant in the country offering this level of execution at such an accessible cost. This spot truly offers the "best and cheapest" combination without sacrificing a shred of decency or flavor. Coupled with the quality is the solid and decent service. The staff is consistently attentive, making sure your meal is served promptly and your water is full. The atmosphere is warm, making it feel like a cherished neighborhood spot. If you are traveling through Indiana—or if you live here and haven't discovered it yet—make the pilgrimage. Yamato is, without question, Indiana’s best small-town Japanese restaurant and a phenomenal example of how high-quality dining doesn't have to break the bank. Overall Rating: 5/5 Stars (Phenomenal Value and Quality)

It was good. However, I wish there was more variety of sushi (just 3 choices: tuna, white tuna, and salmon). The salmon was delicious. Edamame was good too. The only thing we ordered that we did not like was the Dynamite roll (a specialty roll). The stringy crab meat on the top was super gross. We certainly won’t order that roll again. However we will probably eat here again. Glad to have a place to get sushi in Paoli.

First time here. Prices decent , food was outstanding! Staff friendly. Had California sushi roll, there dumplings, sirloin , and fillet mignon with shrimp. Meso soup. All was outstanding. Definitely going to be stopping in again to try other dishes they serve. Sorry I didn't get a photo of dish we had. Also their rice was very, very good.

This was our first time visiting this restaurant. We spent more money than we normally would have because we wanted to try a few different items that on a normal day we would not have ordered all at once. But it was our anniversary so we got whatever we wanted. The dynamite roll is absolutely fantastic and between us we got the imperial dinner and the salmon dinner and they were both great. So… The food was amazing! The service was great! All in all it was a really good dining experience. We left there stuffed and took...

I have eaten at Yamotos in Paoli several, and I mean several, times without the slightest problem. Food is wonderful, plenty and very tasty. Was never a sushi fan until introduced to it here. Can’t seem to get enough. Wife and I order at least once a week. Wish they could or would open up so we could set down and enjoy Rock Shrimp Shrimp tempura rolls Chicken&shrimp dinner

No I do not own or have any stock...
