I have been working in this area for the past couple of weeks and kept seeing the two local bakeries, Charmy's and Batten's, and thought I would try them both and compare. I went on a Saturday morning and while both were busy, Batten's had a line nearly out the door. Charmy's was steady, but didn't feel too crowded. I am going to now focus on my experience at Charmy's since it was the clear winner in my opinion when it came to the quality of the baked goods. I ordered the same thing at each place: a kolache, a traditional glazed donut, and an apple fritter. In fairness to Batten's they were sold out of Kolaches. The Kolache from Charmy's was delicious and warm. I will say that I think the breading is a bit of a twist from the original Kolache dough, but it was light and pleasant. The glazed donut was one of the better traditional donuts that I have had in a long while. Great texture, just enough glaze and oh-so fresh. The other bakery's glazed donut was a little drier and more dense and the glaze was virtually non-existent. Win for Charmy's! The apple fritter was wonderful too! This was the most significant difference between the two places. I could tell when I saw the two fritters side-by-side which one was going to come out on top. The other bakery's fritter looked like a cinammon roll that got left at the bottom of a kids backpack all day. The appearance and texture of the Charmy's fritter was keeping with tradition and appopriately sized for the price point. When tasting the two there was not doubt which one was made properly. Granted, if you are just looking for a large mouthful of cinnamon and sugar in any form, the other 'fritter' is much larger, but if you actually want the taste of an apple fritter in Paragould, best to get it...
Read moreI was stuck at the traffic light by Charmy's and have never actually been there before but decided in a spilt moment to give them a try. Probably the best decision I made. I went in and was greeted by a lot of friendly faces. And the decor was adorable!
I decided to get a assortment box for my fiancé's office staff and it came out to a little over $20. They tacked on some donut holes for me too. Out of the assortment, I tried the blueberry cake donut and the bavarian stuffed round donut. Both were equally delicious! I followed them up with a their green tea smoothie. A bit on the sweet side so it took me awhile to drink it but I can say wholeheartedly that it taste just as good melted as it does frozen. 🧊🧋💓
Definitely going to go back and try their Taro smoothie, more donuts, and try some of their savory...
Read moreVisited this donut shop in Paragould and it was really good, like the other locations in Jonesboro. The donuts are extremely light, soft, and airy and tasted fresh. None of the pastries were overly dense like some of the chain donut shops. In addition to donuts, they serve other dishes besides like breakfast sandwiches, kolaches, and biscuits and gravy too if you are not feeling something sweet. They serve coffee, milk, and soft drinks for beverages. There is some indoor seating and the service was friendly and fast. This location also has a drive-thru, which is convenient if you do not want to get out of your vehicle. Good place and I will visit again when...
