The Republic House — Restaurant in Pasadena

If I could give fewer stars, I would..... this was a great place a few years ago, but not so much anymore. The first sign was when I saw Bud Light and Budweiser on the tap list. Getting past that, we had 2 before heading home for the night, when an employee at 1:40 said "it's time to go in." Slightly puzzled, we finished our drinks and headed for the patio exit when a bar tender asked us if there was a problem. "No, we are leaving, apparently it's time to go in." I have never heard of a patio closing 20 minutes before closing time, but whatever. The bartender seemed pretty put out with us, and the sarcastic wave from the waitress was uncalled for. I have spoken to Clint, the owner, on several occasions and found him to be a good guy but the service and our treatment last night sealed the deal that we won't be back. So. . . Touted (by themselves) as a whiskey bar. . . So I go to drink whiskey. I order a Texas staple bourbon, Garrison Bros. They're out. Out of my next two. So I get generic Makers mark. Yay. They extorte their customers, if you don't tip what they think you should the waitress will tell you they won't serve you unless you pay them. This is not okay. Will never return. I would advise against spending your money there. They are ungrateful for their customers. And treat you like trash unless you pay alot for better. If you go there they expect you have tipped at least $20 for poring a beer. Even if you spend 20-30 total they expect a $20 tip for poring beer. Its so simple.
