Just to make it clear, I am writing this on behalf of my mom and stepdad. I live in Pawtucket and frequented Ming's ALL THE TIME, I loved Ming's so much. I was devastated when they closed the shop on Mineral as it was next to my apartment but then saw they were opening right by my mom. I recommended Ming's profusely to my mom, stepdad, and everyone in the area.
However, my mom just called me to let me know she'd never be back there again after trying last night. There were two women there last night that belonged to a party of ten. My mom said not only did the owner allow this party to take the table my mom was at because "first come first serve", he was rude to the entire restaurant that wasn't that party. He was ignoring questions from my mom and the rest of the parties. He ignored the party next to my mom when they were asking for forks, and my mom had to answer.
Additionally, my mom was not given small plates for the meal and had to go up and ask. The large party did not. My mom went to order something on the menu and was told that they did not have it. Moments later, that dish was served to the larger party.
My mom was so incredibly disappointed because that man was rude to all of the customers that weren't apart of the party, not just her. She loves supporting local restaurants and was so excited because I had recommended to her.
I personally am very disappointed as this does NOT match the service I received at the Pawtucket location.
EDIT: Due to the rudeness of the response, I contacted my mom and had her personally write a response. I am very disappointed a business I used to love would imply this is fake or exaggerated. If you feel the need to question again, I'd be happy to have myself or my mom call in to verify. But here is my mom's official review:
The review that my daughter submitted was not false. I would submit this one myself, but it would not follow in the thread, so I asked her to post on my behalf.
My partner and I walked in at the same time as the first two in a party of 10. They were pulling tables together as my partner and I were finding a table to sit. They moved toward taking tables where my partner and I were siting down at. You said, "take what you want, it's first come, first serve", never acknowledging or looking at us. The older woman, realizing this was not okay, said, "they were getting ready to sit, so we will stick with these tables over here."
I affirm that you were busy, but not until after we ordered, and no more busy than other local small restaurants we frequent. Our dinner was delivered with w/no small plates. When your party of 10 was given dinner plates and all of your attention. I expect they were friends by the way you engaged w/them. Which is fine, I get why friends would be given that kind of attention. But even so, that does not excuse you from not telling us or other parties where the utensils were--this was our first time at your restaurant. Nor does it explain how we were told an item was not available, and the large party, who was served well after we ordered and ate, was served two large platters of that item.
I am not trying to say we deserved all the attention, and normally, I would not even bother to write a review. The lack of attention to plates and forks was not excused by business when your big party was given both. Most importantly, the way we were "greeted" as we attempted to sit not only felt rude, but it was incredibly uncomfortable for us. It may not have been obvious to you, but I am not sure that is the point. It was obvious to your customer--a customer who loves her community, loves supporting local restaurants, was excited that you were coming to Broad and shared picture updates of your reno of Edgewood cafe every time she walked by, and who was there to celebrate her birthday w/her partner.
I do wish you much success. As my partner said, the experience wasn't great, but the sauce...
Read moreThe dumplings were good and the chicken itself was juicy with crispy breading, but the sauces and toppings on the sandwiches left a bit to be desired and were a bit on the sweeter side without that acidic kick to really balance it out. We got the classic & katsu bbq, and while both were clearly made well with fresh ingredients the flavors were surprisingly subdued. (I've had the Korean Hot sandwich from the truck in the past and the flavors on that are fantastic) The honey miso banana pudding was absolutely worth getting. Even going right on opening, the service and professionalism of the staff was great.
Overall it's a good spot, but the food truck prices at a brick and mortar spot is a bit crazy to me. Our total for two sandwiches, dumplings, and a dessert was $70 after tip. Overall Ming's is worth a visit, but the current pricing and hit-and-miss flavors definitely makes it a once and a while type of spot.
I should also note, the sandwiches do come with fries, but I would rather have the sandwiches cost 3 - $4 less and then have the option to pay an extra 3 - $4 for fries if I want them. The other thing is "lettuce, tomato, and cheese" costs $2 extra. I can understand the up-charge on cheese, but there should be a way to add lettuce and tomato at a...
Read moreMy fiancé and I used Ming's food truck for our wedding celebration, and we cannot express enough how amazing they were. From the first moment that we stepped into their brick and mortar for a tasting to all of our communication, Ming's went above and beyond to meet our needs and expectations.
We had tried a few food trucks, but Ming's stood out the most to us, and we couldn't have been happier with our decision. Our guests were so impressed with the quality of the food and the kindness of the staff. They not only passed out apps but also gave the experience of going up to the food truck to grab food.
We were looking for a wow factor for our celebration, and this was definitely a highlight that people will continue to talk about. Whether you want to visit their brick-and-mortar for lunch or hire their food truck for your next event, we implore you to choose Ming's. You will not be...
