Update: so I have time and since Barbara decided to write a "review" for 5 stars to respond to my review... let's get a few things straight... coincidence that you, Barbara, were there and decided to write your own review like a week or more after after my review, and what would've prompted you to go to Google if it wasn't done the same day? Maybe cuz you know the waitress. If you read recent reviews, someone had the same experience when it came to the tables and the attitude from what seems to be the same waitress. Who are you to tell me how I should feed my daughter. She sits at a chair and we sit next to each so I can assist her if she needs any help feeding. She was trying to sit me in a table for 1 person on each side, which i had just previously moved from and i mentioned to the waitress. If you were there, you would've heard the conversation in which she was trying to give the table I was at to someone she knows. Who granted, wasn't even standing there as a party of 3 or 4 in which they wouldn't have needed that table either. If it was a problem, something would've been said by the mayor or even the waitress herself when she first greeted me and asked my drink order and was about to take my food order. Explain to me how a smaller table would've been more comfortable? No, this is called damage control. The waitress was rude, rolled her eyes and said so and so was gonna get mad if he didn't get the bigger table but "whatever". If it was an issue, it should've been addressed the moment I sat down, the other table could've been offered if it was preferred to save the bigger table ONLY for 3 or 4... or if the coffee pots was an issue or whatever excuse you are suggesting. The situation was completely uncalled for and if it was addressed from the beginning, I would've understood, but it was a problem after like 5-10 minutes of my being there. So I don't buy it. But I guess they have you to thank for a 5 star review to counter my 1 star 👏
Original Review: I LITERALLY just walked out of the restaurant. Mayor Frank Ortis was there and was very nice and greeted me and my daughter. My low rating is due to the interaction with the older waitress with long blonde hair.
I had walked in with my child and was told by another waitress to sit where I'd like. At first I sat at a 2 top because that's the only table I noticed open (which means I sat my daughter on top of me)... but then I noticed a 4 top available that would allow us to sit next to each other (it was what was available at the time that worked better for us as far as seating and table space). So I ask for a water and I was trying to order when the waitress looks up and sees someone walk in (obviously she knows them) and tries to get me to move back to a small table because "so and so person (i think she said John or something, not sure on name) is gonna get mad if he doesn't have the bigger table.. We rather keep the table open in case 3 or 4 come... but whatever". I explained that i moved here to sit next to my daughter and have space to eat. So she had an attitude because I didn't want to sit in a table where my daughter and i had to share a single person table space. She was trying to play musical tables with some other guy there as well (that she may have known) to accommodate other people that walked in after. She completely disregarded what i needed as a customer who was already sitting down (for 5 to 10 minutes) and there was no issue with me sitting there prior to anyone else's arrival.
So, I got up, grabbed my stuff along with my daughter, and said never mind, mentioned that her attitude was extremely rude and just walked out.
First time visiting the location and do not recommend solely on the fact that it seems very cliquey and not everyone there treats EVERY customer with the same respect, regardless of status on...
Read moreUpdated Review September 13. 2024. [Tasty Whitefish]. We eat here about twice a month and the food is always great. I often get the Nova platter and they now serve such a large amount of Nova that it is a challenge to get it to fit on 2 halves of a bagel. Today I tried the Whitefish chunk. As difficult as it is to find Whitefish salad on a menu anywhere in this area or for it to be good, it is much more difficult to find Whitefish chunks. I first ate this many years ago as a kid and it has easily been 10 or 15 years since I have had it. Mayor's gets theirs from Acme and it was properly moist, had some oil (as it should) and it was easy to pull it away from the bones, put it on a bagel and simply enjoy. All of this was part of a Fish Platter for 2 where my girlfriend enjoyed Nova on a Bagel. On most other occasions we have the omelettes and they are very good...and large. The update on the coffee is that it is still very rich and never bitter. Finally, the Mayor (yes, he has actually been the Mayor of a local city for years) has put together a very friendly staff. We highly recommend Mayor's.
Updated Review November, 2023. We have now been eating here for 3 or 4 years. Always very good food, reasonable prices and very pleasant waitresses. Bagels are in the Top 3 in Broward County, portions of Nova always large, and good strong (not bitter) coffee. Highly recommend and worth the drive from East Hollywood.
[The below review seems to be from 2021]. Always good bagels, nova, salads and sandwiches...and they are very good at SD. Waitresses are very nice and the only negative is that the food comes out of the kitchen rather slowly (probably bc they have a strong pick up business...
Read moreNew York feels, the staff and owner are SOOOOO FRIENDLY AND WELCOMING...the FOOD? OUTSTANDING !!!!!! My husband passed away a week ago. This was a place I had brought our kids and grandkids and nephew (when he was in town visiting) but Ryan could go, he was at work. So I couldnt wait to bring him for breakfast! He was off during the week one day due to an appointment so I brought him and he LOVED IT! I only got to enjoy this place with him once (we moved from Kentucky 14 months ago) but that makes it even more special! The day that same nephew had to fly back to Seattle after the funeral week we honored Ryan by eating breakfast there again. Oir 2 year old grandson was being a 2 year old boy and he saw a lollipop in the trash and kept asking for one. I'm assuming the owner, the elder bright eyed friendly man, was leaning on the counter right next to our table the whole meal and kept laughing at Riel saying you gotta eat your breakfast before you get a lollipop! His presentation was so comforting and when he and another female staff member started the New York banter (that Ryan and I just Love!) over the Florida cold front swooping in during our meal I was giggling and I felt Ryan laughing with me and it is not just my favorite restaurant bc of my emotional attachment, but truly is amazing food.....Its a place you wanna go every day. And people do go daily and the employees and owners do know their patrons. I've witnessed their charm to their patrons amd enjoyed their menu 3 times now in 3 months and I will be coming back more often..even if it will be alone or with my loud kids/amd grandkids. THANK YOU! Your hard work and love really shine through your food and your...
