Small family owned bakery where everything is made from scratch. I tried the red velvet cake, eclair, chocolate brownie, and peanut butter brownie. It was a pretty good value for the amount you get. I keep comparing this place to Oakmont Bakery since it's quite close. Definitely a much smaller selection, but I saved $5 on the cake. Didn't save much in the pastries.
They have a half off section that I recommend you take advantage of. The quality is great there as well. The cake wasn't a big hit. The icing is very sweet, the filling doesn't taste very cream cheese like, and the batter was quite flavorless. Some else called it "plasticy." Eclair was a good size and the filling was great. Filled well, good flavor, icing is perfect. Recommend getting that.
Brownies were okay. Didn't have much flavor. While I typically enjoy peanut butter, I preferred the regular to the PB brownie. Didn't have a string flavor but both were fudgey.
Overall, I'd still return here from time to time just to try the Napoleon, pies, pepperoni rolls, pineapple upside down cake, donuts, and other goods. However, my go to bakery is...
Read moreSuper excited to try Stoecklein's, when we recently moved to Verona. I've since visited four times, but won't likely won't return. It's not because of the baked goods. We've had the donuts, sticky buns, bread and rolls and they're all pretty good. The pricing is good too, and the menu options are fine. We also really like supporting local business over restaurant chains. Our "less than" review is because of the customer service. I've had one great exchange (with an older person), but the other three times the person behind the counter behaves as if they're doing me the favor in helping me make my purchase (a younger person); to the point of rudeness (no eye contact, one word and abrasive responses, and general lack of courtesy). The first time I thought maybe they were shy or just had a bad day, but after the second and third times after a month of trying? ... The best I can think of is that perhaps they're always having a bad day? At any rate, life is short and smiles are free. I'd rather shop elsewhere for donuts, and bread, rather than get an extra helping of ill will with my...
Read moreWanted to try their apple fritters after reading about them. Made a half hour drive to the bakery and got there at 11:00 on a Tuesday. After waiting while the only other person in the store was being served, I was told that they were out of apple fritters and always sell out of them by the afternoon. IT WAS 11 AM!!! Here's an idea!!! If they're that good and that popular...MAKE MORE OF THEM!!! How many days do you have to run out of things before deciding to make more of them?!?!?! Other items like their cronuts seemed WAY overpriced at $2.75 each. I will drive a few more miles to Oakmont Bakery which never disappoints and always has adequate ...
