Mister Softee Original Ice Cream Store — Restaurant in Pennsauken Township

I've always loved Mr. Softee ice cream so when I found out that they have an actual ice cream stand in addition to the hundreds of ice cream trucks I was SO excited and couldn't wait to go there. My mom and I both ordered soft-serve ice cream sundaes one day plus they had a sign saying "Funnel Cake" too so we ordered 1 to share and went back to the car to eat.

Our sundaes were awesome!! We really enjoyed them. The funnel cake however was terrible!! It was heavy like fried dough and the taste was awful. Since we were in the car, we placed it on the dashboard while we finished our sundaes. After that I took it and went to throw it out but another customer that was in line stopped me and said "You didn't like that? You're throwing the whole thing away??" I explained that we didn't like it at all and why so she suggested that I take it to the counter and ask for my money back. I hadn't even thought of that. She said that's what she would do if it was her. So I said ok and got in the line with the same girl that had waited on us earlier. A minute or two later it was my turn and the girl saw me holding the funnel cake and told me she "would be right back" as soon as I stepped up to the counter. FIVE minutes later the girl finally came back and looked really annoyed (completely different than earlier when she had waited on us) and said "Can I help you?" I said yes and told her apologetically that we really didn't like the funnel cake at all and would like to get our money back. She said "hang on, I'll have to call my manager to find out if it's ok or not." I said ok thank you and waited for her answer. All of a sudden I hear her on the phone with the manager and she says "Yeah I've got ANOTHER customer who wants to return the funnel cake and get a refund. What do you want me to do?" I was so shocked to hear this!! I thought wow that's crazy!! Apparently a lot of people don't like that funnel cake!

ANOTHER 5 minutes goes by and she finally comes back and tells me that she "can't refund my money because it's been over a half hour since you got your order and our policy is 30 minutes or less on refunds." I was like "WHAT??!! Are you serious?? It hasn't been over a half hour since we got our order!" Then she says "Yes it has. I saw you put it on the dashboard. If you didn't like it then you should have come over sooner." I literally dropped my jaw and stared at her in total disbelief. I mean, Really??!! So that's why she told me she would be right back when she saw me holding the funnel cake and why she took so long to get back to me when she was talking to her manager!! She was stalling!! Un-freakin-real!! Well the other customers in line behind me overheard the whole thing and they were shocked too! One guy even made a point of coming up to me in front of her and handed me a $5.00 bill and said "here take this; that's seriously messed up that they won't give you your money back. That's total BS!!" I was stunned and tried to give it back to him and he said "No please keep it." And then he looked at her and said "that was gonna be her tip!" LOL!!! I laughed and thanked him and then left.

I still love Mr. Softee ice cream and always will. I will continue to run after the trucks like an excited child whenever I hear that unforgettable jingle coming down the street. But I will never ever buy anything from that ice cream stand again. Whoever owns/manages that place is just in it to make a buck and that's it. They don't care about their customers and they don't care about the quality of their products. They play games so they don't have to refund anyone's money. What a racket!! They...

Not only did I wait for an hour and still didn't get their ice cream, but they also discovered a more concerning issue - the joint's owner is probably evading taxes by not reporting their true income to the IRS. By operating on a cash-only basis, they can easily hide their profits and avoid paying their fair share of taxes, which is a grave offense to the law and the society.

Moreover, if you do decide to try your luck at this place, don't count on the ATM they have on the side. According to the reviewer, most banks flag it, and your transactions are likely to be declined. This is not only a hassle for customers, but it also raises questions about the joint's legitimacy and financial stability. If they can't even provide a functioning ATM, how can they manage the rest of their business operations?

But the most frustrating part of the my experience was the joint's false marketing and misleading sign. They claimed that customers can order through DoorDash or Grubhub, but when the reviewer tried to do so, they were rudely informed that it's not possible because the joint doesn't have the systems in place. This is not only false advertising, but it also shows a lack of customer service and professionalism. If a business can't even honor its own sign, how can it expect to retain loyal customers?

In conclusion, this joint should not be in business with such a dishonest and inefficient mentality. Customers deserve better than waiting for an hour, being denied by the ATM, and receiving rude service. Let's hope the joint's owner learns to run their business in an honest and customer-oriented way, or else they should consider...

This rating is for the ice cream truck. Today (04/15/21) I went to the truck and got 3 popsicles. I am a committed customer every time the truck comes I’m out my door ASAP. Now this wasn’t the usual driver! It was a different person and he tried to charge me $9.50 of course not knowing that i know the prices of everything considering I get it all the time the same items there’s no difference in it. This guy proceeded to argue with me like I don’t know that the popsicles cost 2 dollars. He tried to charge $3 extra and that’s not cool.
