Amboy Restaurant — Restaurant in Perth Amboy

My husband went here to get some food for us. They recently opened and we live close by and wanted to support a new local restaurant. I don't eat pork, or red meat in general. He ordered fish, some veggies and some vegetable rice. There was pork all in the vegetable rice which I cannot eat, so although we just bought it, we had to throw it away because the restaurant is closing now.

I will just advise the owner to consider that they should consider people that cannot eat certain foods and make sure it is explained that there may be meat in foods like rice, especially if it’s titled “vegetable”. If I wasn't careful and checked I could of gotten seriously sick. I would rate the food a 2, it didn't taste fresh at all, maybe a day old. In the end I took two bites and didn't want it.

I keep my reviews universal so I will add that the place has a decent ambiance. Not like the Amboy Armory on any level. I hope they improve their menu, and consider all of the patrons they may be selling to.

The food was amazing. The service was friendly and wonderful and the restaurant very clean. The portions were big enough that my husband and I shared a plate of rice and beans with plantains and the pork. The flan is amazing. We also got yellow rice and beans with chicken to go for dinner later.

We came out here for an unexpected doctor’s appointment and got devastating news, but I decided we should try to eat something. Please thank your staff for their kindness because to them, they may have just been doing their jobs, but to me, their kindness didn’t go unnoticed. Them taking the time to explain what everything is (my husband is part Puerto Rican but we don’t speak Spanish) and just being genuinely kind and helpful, really meant a lot.
