Mom & Dad's Country Cooking — Restaurant in Petal

This was my first time eating at this restaurant. Although I have heard not so great things about this place, my neighbor insisted that I go. Going inside of the restaurant was very old and outdated. I sat at a table that was peeling. My food was terrible. The fish was not "Southern Catfish" and it was fried so hard til you could not eat the end. I had black eyed peas and it was sour which let me know that the food was not properly cooled down or it sat out way too long. The greens (out of a can)was very sour as well. The hush puppies were so hard it was not edible. They have teas at all of the tables sitting out all day. Food safety precautions are not in place. I will not go back there including those at my table. I was very disappointed. The staff was very nice. I wanted to share my experience but it was so many people. Also the tables are too close together making it hard for my handicapped friend on a walker to get by. A gentleman had to physically move because it was no space. I hope they update the facility and have there cooks/staff trained on food safety...

I had not dined here in over 25 year's, but on this day I was meeting someone there, so I figured that I go ahead and have Breakfast there. Folks that was a good decision, as their prices are fair, their portions are great as was the food itself, with their thick sliced bacon actually being cooked perfectly, which you very seldom find these days. The only reason I cannot give them 5 Stars is the fact that my waitress just wasn't attentive enough. After she served me my meal, she never came back to check on me, so I did not get a water refill and I drink a lot of water. When I went to check out I got to talk with the manager and another waitress who were both very friendly ladies. I will be returning here for Breakfast and hope to make it by for their lunch...

This place is a bit of a well kept secret amongst local Petal residents. It is a soul food buffet with limited selection. A couple of entrees and a handful of sides that are tasty, but not a lot of variety. Fried chicken, catfish and some BBQ ribs were on the menu during my visit. The place is always packed with patrons and the staff seems to know most of them. It is reasonably priced and the atmosphere is very friendly. I just wish there was a...
