The first person to greet you upon entering this phenomenal authentic Greek gyros & salad cafe is usually the lovely Sophia. Or perhaps beautiful Caroline. Their bright smiles light up the cozy small interior, and owner/mother Katherine is usually there as well preparing food and keeping the place spotlessly clean. A family owned standalone business that will satisfy your tastebuds and your thrifty wallet or purse. As a diabetic, I am also always looking for sources of healthy high-protein food with complex carbs. The gyro (pronounced "hero" by Greeks and everyone except Pittsburghers) is a delicious combination of lamb and beef, and a whole wheat pita is available. My favourite is a toasted pita, warm lamb/beef, and cold onion and sour cream on top. Very reasonable prices, and a fridge with a good selection of drinks, including protein drinks for those who are preparing to go hiking or biking on the fantastic railroad track trail which is right behind the cafe. Well worth the gorgeous country drive to Valleybrook Rd through Upper St. Clair in the bucolic town of McMurray from anywhere in Pittsburgh's beautiful South Hills. A well-deserved...
Read moreGreat family owned spot directly off the montour trail for gyros and a decent menu of other Mediterranean goodies.
I’d assume this place has made a name for itself as a pit stop off the montour trail and have to say after a long bike ride this would be a great place to order some good food and sit outside and enjoy the nice little courtyard. The staff is super friendly and inviting.
The food was just ok, not the best but certainly far from the worst. I probably wouldn’t be as critical if the prices were a little lower but if you are charging top dollar for a gyro with no sides I expect the best.
I got the gyro, wife tried the grilled chicken pita, we split a spanakopita and green fries with the kids. The chicken and fries were great. The gyro was average but LOADED with meat. I’d probably ask for an extra side of tzatziki next time. Spanakopita hit the spot but wasn’t the best I’ve ever had.
All in all a solid place, My family and I had a great time and we are happy to support the local business. But if I want a cheap meal or the best gyro in town I’ll probably drive a bit out a Peters...
Read moreOrdered pickup at 6:15, got there at 6:45 to pick up, waited till 7:30 to get my food. I would have left if I hadn't already paid. Also while I was waiting I saw the cook toss up a fry and try to catch it in his mouth. He missed, it bounced off his mouth then it fell back into the tray of fries and he then continued using using that tray to make more orders.
I have been going to this place for years, and I have seen it slowly degrade to its current state. Apparently it's under new management, and when I finally got home with our dinner and opened it up, there was half of the food that normally comes with a gyro platter. We called and complained and were told that they are now practicing portion control due to the new management. A gyro player costs $18.00 and a couple months back we used to be able to split one for my two kids and still have half of it left over, so it was worth the price. However now, my kids ate the whole thing and were still hungry. The food has gotten worse, they give you half as much and still charge the same high prices. I won't be going...
