Parkside Cafe — Restaurant in Pine Level

Ok I'm going to give my honest review. I want to start by saying I have eaten here before and everything was perfect, but today was not so good. My wife had county fried steak with mash potatoes and fried okra. Only problem with hers was gravy had a little to much pepper and we use alot of pepper in our food, so it had to be alot. I had hamburger steak with onion gravy, mashed potatoes and I know its alot of potatoes but I wanted to try the potato salad. Hamburger steak had what looked like a whole onion sliced on top and the hamburger itself tasted like potted meat. It was like the meat was put in a food processor rather than ground. Potato salad had way to much pickle relish in it to where even the potatoes tasted like pickles. Service wasn't the best this trip either. Waitress took drink order, came back with cups, took order, brought food and that was the last we saw of her. I really love this place because the fried pork chops are amazing and this was the first bad experience I had there. If I ever doubted that racism still existed in Johnston County, this restaurant reminded my family and I that it is still very much alive. We went to eat supper at Parkside and we were treated like second class citizens. Our server was too busy gawking and gossiping with the table across from us to tend to our refills or the creamer that I asked for at least 4 times. I finally got up and walked to the front to get it myself. I guess these simple minded folks have never seen a blended family before. We will not be returning to spend our hard earned dollar here. Working as a nurse at one the largest healthcare systems in the US I come in contact with a lot of potential customers. I will be glad to let them know not to waste their time going to parkside. "I love this place! The moment I walked in, I was greeted with a warm smile and friendly service. The menu is quite impressive, but I highly recommend trying their hamburgers - they are juicy and packed with flavor. Despite my positive experience, I couldn't help but notice that the interior design could use some work. It looks a bit dull and incomplete, which made me feel like they rushed the construction process.
