So I came here finding out that they're top 8 in the country, so I had to check it out since was looking for a new place to chill with friends over real bbq. And yes, this review is from Poppa's BBQ. So right when I ordered the food and they gave me the cash back I ended up putting over $3.50 in their tip cup before I even received my plate. As I was putting the tip in their cup, there were 2 people right there just completely trying to ignore me and didn't even bother to say thank you so cost came over $15 for their 2 piece dark chicken with 3 rips and potato salad. The chicken tasted awful. At first I saw this juice and thought that it was moist juice but then realized it was nasty grease but didn't really taste the grease because the chicken tasted like you were eating smoke from a fire pit. The rib portions were very, very small. Probably 2 bits worth. And the ribs tasted like just smoke and didn't even taste the meat. As I'm checking out the new restaurant (that they moved from the one next door) while I'm eating, I see 3 different ant trails and one of them was on a seat that looked like it was never cleaned. Then I hear someone coughing and sneezing that sounds like a nasty cold while in the back and I'm like great. Next thing I know, I have a cold. Which is illegal btw to work in a kitchen while sick. After coming back to these reviews, I realized that they are over one year old so they just lost a bunch of business since I will be telling my friends about this. I feel like I should do humanity a favor and contact the FDA...
Read moreI have never been a barbecue person. And that's probably because I've never been able to find good barbecue.
That changed when I found Poppa's BBQ.
They do it the right way, low and slow with a dry rub, Memphis style.
They open at 10:30 but there's usually somebody waiting for the doors to open and sometimes a line so get there early.
I definitely recommend calling ahead because they usually run out of food by 1:30 or 2:00.
The pulled pork was amazing, but my favorite hands down is there ribs. The meat almost melts in your mouth.
I want to point out their House made BBQ sauce, it's the first one I've come across that isn't loaded down with sugar.
I definitely recommend them, whether you like barbecue or not you won't be disappointed.
Also I want to point out that they are very highly recommended on TripAdvisor.
I definitely give...
Read moreWhat can I say. This place is absolutely amazing. I have been going here for lunch since they opened across the street. Small batch huge flavor BBQ. True Memphis style rubs and cooking. Their rub is excellent, great sweet/heat flavor to it. Sauce is not mandatory, but always acceptable on the pork or ribs. They serve baby back ribs that just fall off the bone. The pork is always tender and plentiful on the sandwiches. The family that owns and operates it truly cares about their product and the customer satisfaction. Get there early, or order ahead otherwise you will wait for nothing... they run out all the time. Not because they don't make enough, but because they are way busier than expected. Try it you will not be dissatisfied or disappointed. 10 out of 10 / 5 stars / just...
