This place serves incredibly delicious food. I was very surprised with the quality given it has so few reviews. This place should be a lot more popular! I ordered the curry chicken patty, the jerk chicken with steamed cabbage and rice with peas (beans), fried plantains, and cornbread.
I'll start with the star of the show: the incredible jerk chicken. Wow, wow, wow! The chicken was perfectly cooked and had an amazing texture. The spice was absolutely perfect as well. I thought it would extremely spicy. It's not too spicy, and had a slight sweetness to it. Not too fatty either. It's so good. The portion was great.
The sides were also incredibly good. It is both sweet and slightly salty. Once again, the portion is incredible. Good texture, some carrots in there as well. It tastes like it's homemade and authentic. The rice and peas were also great and the portion was fantastic. It was a little bit dry, but still very good. It's not made with peas, but with beans (I think kidney beans).
The plantains were once again insanely delicious. Some of the best plantains I've had in a while. It's quite sweet, so almost like a dessert. The inside is almost creamy. Amazing portion once more. And amazing price.
The curry chicken patty was also great. The chicken stuffed inside was very well cooked, and the spices were perfect as well. The outside was crispy while the inside is creamy. There is nothing negative about this patty. Just get it.
The only tiny negative about this place would be that I ordered some cornbread but I never received it. I am sure that it would be very tasty, but I just never got it. No problem though.
All in all, incredible place. Honestly you need to try this place if you are in any way interested in trying Caribbean food. The prices are awesome, the portions are awesome, and the flavors...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreFinally they had Curried Goat left when I happened by, and it was EXCELLENT. I was feeling a little dodgy about it at first because it smelled so smoky, but that's because they are BBQing right out back. The amount of smoke was perfect once I started eating it. The sauce was fantastic, rice and peas were perfect for mixing in the sauce, mac and cheese was very good.
Being a person with some food safety training, I peek into Food Trucks every time I order, and Negril Curbside keep that nearly-brand-new truck very clean on the inside. Also everything I've ordered has always been piping hot. Food safety practices seem great.
Service is friendly and conscientious (carefully wiping down containers with drips on them using a clean paper towel, etc), but sometimes it's hard to hear them over the loud music out front. Maybe they should turn that speaker away from the window, or put it on the other side of the window, but still facing 2nd Ave?
I'd take off a point for waiting, but it's a small business and they only have so many people. If more people knew how good this place is (at least for the above items, plus jerk chicken, which I've also tried), the wait would much longer, even with more staff. Would like to try ordering fish with my family some time. It's a call-ahead thing, according to the whiteboard out front.
Like other reviewers I did once order pepper steak about a year ago that was one piece and comically impossible to cut with plastic cutlery, but it was tasty. I'd probably not order it again unless I was taking it home, or if they change it to strips.
This place is an asset to Hazelwood, with as little variety of food as we have in walking distance, and I wish them lots of success....
Ā Ā Ā Read moreDon't go here. I have been to plenty Caribbean restaurants and this one is horrible. The worst red beans and rice I have ever tasted and my chicken just tasted like grilled chicken... I'm not sure if it's even done. Also, the women purposely did not make our order right and when we asked for gravy they gave us a cup of grease y'all !!!!! ON PURPOSE!!!!!!! This was our first time going here and our last!!! AND IF A PLACE ARGUES BACK WHEN PEOPLE LEAVE A REVIEW THATS A RED FLAG NOT TO GO THERE. SMH
Response to owner: I leave 1 star reviews to the businesses that have bad business practice, but I leave alot of 5 star reviews to those that care about their customers and it's obvious you guys don't care because you literally gave us a cup of grease and said it was gravy after we said there was no gravy on the chicken that we requested the first time. You must not have gravy like the other Caribbean restaurants and instead of telling us that you gave us a cup full of GREASE trying to be funny. YOU'RE DISGUSTING AND THATS JUST DISRESPECTFUL. I could've sued you for that and btw the food was disgusting we couldn't even eat it. Yuck...
