Stout's is situated not far from the traffic circle adorning the intersection of 53rd Avenue and Middle Road, an intersection I take almost every day to and from work. I typically pass by Stout's and all of 53rd Avenue every day, as I continue down Middle Road to I-80 for work or south to get home. Today was the day though - I had been told Stout's has some good food and was worth the trip.
I'd say this assessment was spot on. The interior is not large - there were plenty of tables, but almost all were full when I arrived. With the bar completely empty, I opted to sit there to eat and drink alone for the evening.
As one of the businesses growing along 53rd Avenue and around the TBK Bank Sports Complex, Stout's has a new, clean interior. Light wood laminate covers the floor throughout the dining space, with the walls mostly consisting of green painted drywall with various Irish-related accoutrement and decoration. The ceiling is quite unique - bronze colored floral patterned tiles line the entire space. Whether they are actual metal or some PVC product, I couldn't tell for sure, but I also didn't care - they looked cool and worked with the rest of the space.
I opted for my normal drink choice tonight - a Bombay and Tonic. The bartender made it quickly - it was a good solid G&T. For my meal, I chose the Philly Cheese Steak. The shoestring fries were quite delicious - not to crispy and plenty fluffy. The sandwich was solid - not the best Philly Cheesesteak I've ever had, but was seasoned well and had good texture.
I'd come back here for a sandwich and drink again. It's right on the way home for me, making it more convenient than many other places. Thanks for the great...
Read moreI wish I wasn’t writing this review as we enjoy supporting local businesses, but our experience last night was horrendous. We’ve eaten here a few times and last night will be the last time we’ll ever step foot into this restaurant. Our waitress was less than welcoming from the start. We received our spinach artichoke dip that was ice cold and the chips were stale. When we informed the waitress, she cut me off and took the bowl of dip with her hand over the top and said “let me go heat it up for you”. I wanted to have her take it back then, it was cold and just gross. She brought it back, clearly from the microwave and it was still luke warm. My husband and I asked her to please just take it back as it just wasn’t good and clearly microwaved. My so called ‘Italian beef’ sandwich looked like dog food and was essentially a pot roast sandwich with half melted mozzarella cheese with a couple sprinkles of cheddar on there and my husbands pork tenderloin was chewy and salty. When we got the bill the dip was on it and we didn’t feel as though we should pay for something that was practically inedible and brought back and not eaten. When we mentioned the charge to our waitress, she said “well, you ordered it! We only take it off the bill if there was something wrong with it!” along with admitting they microwave the dip to begin with. I responded and informed her there clearly was something wrong with it, not to mention only eating one bite of my sandwich and she eventually agreed to take the dip “just this once” off the bill. My husband and I were shocked at how we were treated, feeling unwelcome and the way the situation was handled overall. Truly a...
Read moreA buddy and I had a very nice lunch there today (a mid-March Friday around noon). There were plenty of seats, even though the parking lot was pretty full (people must have been at the neighboring Genesis medical clinic or at the chiropractor's office). We were able to choose our choice of seating (table, booth, or bar), our server was friendly and efficient, and our food came quickly.
Stout's has a small, special lunch menu available (at least on weekdays) that has cheaper options than the full menu . I had the lunch size breaded tenderloin and fries for $8.00. My friend had the unbreaded tenderloin and fries for the same price. The tenderloin was probably 1/2 the size of the regular tenderloin, but still overlapped the bun by a few inches. The tenderloins were tender, moist, and tasty. The fries were thin-cut and had a very mild seasoned salt on them-- tender, tasty, and not greasy . Both of us thought that this was an excellent meal and that the price was reasonable for what we got. In the past we've both gotten the regular size tenderloins and have always taken half home. This was the perfect size and price for a lunch, and we both finished ours.
On a previous visit I had the Blarney Castle tenderloin dinner. That was a huge, breaded tenderloin on a plate with mashed potatoes, corn, and pork gravy. The breading on it and the sandwiches is very light. That was an excellent meal also, but it was huge and much more expensive ($16). I plan on having it again, but I will likely split it with my wife rather than...
