First time trying Haitian food. I was especially excited to try the djondjon rice (black rice), which is a bit dry but pairs very nicely with the meat and vegetable dishes. Portion sizes were decent enough for post-pandemic standards. I also thought the decor was nice, though I was only there to pick up take-out rather than eat in.
Service is where I had to dock some points. When I got there, they hadn't even seen my Door Dash order placed 40 minutes prior and I had to wait another half hour for them to make it. I ordered "ginger juice," $3.49, which I assumed would be an actual ginger-made juice, similar to what I've had in other Caribbean restaurants or West African restaurants. When I got there, the older male working the register said he didn't have any, but then a female staff member tried to give me a regular $2 bottle of Seagram's Ginger Ale which I can buy anywhere for $2 and definitely isn't "juice." I asked if I could swap it for something else, as they had more interesting Haitian imported options I've never tried before, which are all same price or even cheaper according to the menu, but they said I get what I ordered (even though it wasn't what I ordered). Oh well. At least Door Dash was kind enough to refund me for that.
Also they messed up my order for sweet plaintains, which were tostones instead. I know...
Read moreDon’t waste your time. I know the owner personally (over 15 years). He runs the barber shop next door. Today I placed an order and got 6 fatty oxtails AND AN OXTAIL BONE for $35. I can feed a small family for $35. After multiple (at least 8) attempts to reach the owner, I left the food where it belonged. On the floor of the restaurant. If they’ll treat a local supporter like this, what do u think they’ll do to you? Pleasantville… I’m sorry to all y’all for this review. But I’m disappointed. Ronnie… Bro…What’s up? I didn’t even want my money back. I came back to the restaurant because I wanted you to taste the food for yourself & to tell you that you need to do better For Pleasantville. Especially for $35. U cut my dad’s hair. U cut MY hair. Ruby was my barber when I was a kid. I know your barber shop personally. I’m glad Steph got up outta there. If this is how your treat your people. I was a proud supporter of Wash’s until they closed. Never had this problem. Same thing with Rialtos. I know Aunt Debbie from the rec. She’s retried. But she’s the whole Pleasantville’s aunt. I’m really a local. You need to treat us better than that. Respect the people that have supported you for the past 20 years. Or you won’t have a future. We’re the reason you have anything in the...
Read moreThe guys attitude on the phone was horrible. I ordered a ox tail platter. I asked what came with it, his accent was very thick. So I didn't understand him. I asked him again he seemed annoyed, I asked how much for the platter he said $26.11 I think. I get to the restaurant it wasn't ready, no problem. As I wait I look at the menu, prices are lower. When my food was ready I asked him why the menu prices are different he completely ignored me.It was the same older gentleman I talked to on the phone. I don't know if he was the owner or not. It was about eight oxtails, and they charged me a dollar for the rice, Never again! Plus only certain sides come with the platter. In the end...
