Where do we start with this one? Bad service, bad food, ambiance, value?
It's a warehouse-themed restaurant which means that it's LOUD. I don't usually mind these types of places since it gives a sense of a party. But...even with Covid distancing in place it was hard to hear anything more than 3 feet away.
We reserved a high-top table for a party of 6. The table was available when we arrived. We sat down and then tried to figure out the menu which only exists on the internet. You have to take a picture of the barcode to get redirected to a site that only seems to work with their internal WIFI system. Major issue with security here.
We finally got a server to come to our table and he took our drink order. Basics drinks all around but it took 10 minutes to get them all.
We ordered a the Jalepeno poppers and the nachos for the app. We sat there very confused at this point since we did not have plates or silverware. The server then gave us plates, but only 5 (6 people at the table).
The nachos were ok. Hard to eat without utensils. The $10 poppers (5 poppers) were underwhelming.
We ordered the main course. Absolute disaster. I ordered the Pollo Mole. I've never had a mole that was sweet. The chicken was overcooked and I left most of it on my plate. The beans were from a can (no spice) and the rice was Spanish rice from a bag.
My wife ordered the shrimp. It was 2 cups of butter with some shrimp swimming in it.
The mussels were also tested and I have never had mussels that tasted like this. They were overcooked and had a very weird flavor.
When we were finished, I had to go to the front to ask for the check. Note...the server NEVER checked on us once we got the food.
In the meantime, we were entertained with the STAFF eating in the booth next to us. That brings 2 questions to mind...1) why are staff eating during serving hours in the dining room? 2) why are the staff eating next to patrons?
At this point I was ready to go. I got the check and found that a Coke costs $5. A refill for the coke was $5. Wait...$10 for 2 glasses of coke?
Go somewhere else if you want mexican food....
Read moreAtmosphere: A great restaurant and bar with Mexican fare for the whole family. The dining area is large and can accommodate tables with 2-8 people. The bar area is fairly large and also has extra seating. When we arrived on a Friday evening, we were greeted and seated rather quickly as the restaurant was filling up with young families, couples and a large group seated at a partially secluded table for 10.
Starters: The chips and salsa arrived first. The salsa was good: a little sweet and not hot in any way. The chips were overcooked and one could taste that the fryer oil needed to be changed. We ordered a draft beer and margarita. The margarita was very good and one could taste the tequila. Our server did have one slip: when my partner ordered a drink refill, the server did not ask if I wanted a refill as well - could have saved her a trip!
Main course: Our dinners arrived within a reasonable amount of time. The food was well made: the rice was moist; the black beans were cooked to perfection. The order of salmon tacos and fajitas were both good.
Bottom line: The standout for both dinner entrees was the fact that neither were that flavorful. Neither were spicy in any way. The included picante sauce was dull and had zero "kick". There was no noticeable marinade or sauce present on either dish, which was disappointing. Don't get me wrong, the cooking was great as it is a staple of many Mexican restaurants to overcook the rice and undercook the beans.
Final words: This is a good Mexican restaurant in the Doylestown area (the land of a thousand mediocre restaurants). That said, there are better choices within 30 minutes.
Spend: Around $80 for two entries and two...
Read moreI’ve been to Casa Toro in Doylestown a few times. When they first opened up, the place was great! However, overtime I noticed that it started to lack the quality as it once did. The last two times that we went there ultimately ruined the experience for us. We went in for trivia night before Cinco De Mayo and our server was great! We was really interactive and communicative with us. He made sure to get our food and drinks out in a timely manner. Unfortunately, half of our party’s food was a miss - either cold, lacked flavor, or not really getting their money’s worth by having something missing.
The last time we went there, it was 8 pm and seemed busy. The minute we sat down, most parties got up and had left so traffic slowed down a bit. Our server was missing for most of the night. We started off with the queso tasted a bit sour and the chips were hard and oily. We waited a solid 40-50 minutes for our entrees, and our drinks came toward the end of our meal. Once we got our food, it was either cold, underdone, or lacked flavor. We were just ready to get out of there and go home. It seemed like our server was focused on attending to the bigger parties more, which caused a delay for us in a lot of things and ruined...
