Another entry into the crowded Mexican food options of Plymouth. Cancun Express is…ok.
We ordered one of each main option on the menu (tacos, burritos, quesadillas). They use the same fast casual style of Q’doba and Chipotle with the “build your own” option.
Burrito w/chicken, pico de gallo, cojita, lettuce, refried beans, Spanish rice and cilantro aioli - Chicken didn’t really taste seasoned that much. I thought the refried beans would be on the side, otherwise I would have gotten black beans. I was looking forward to the cilantro aioli, but I didn’t taste much of anything. Generally good, but I felt it was missing some flavor.
Cheese quesadilla w/rice and beans - wife got this and had no complaints. They forgot the sour cream, though.
Gringo taco - wasn’t eaten (son didn’t feel good). I looked in the box and the taco was tiny.
Queso blanco w/chips - this is where they kinda lose me. Queso is a substantial amount. Good flavor, but runny. Needs to be a bit thicker. The bag of chips that came with it was a joke. Might have been a handful of chips. Every other Mexican place gives you overflowing bags of chips that we end up having leftovers. So now we have queso leftover, but no chips.
Also, the forgot another side salsa (avocado salsa).
Total cost: about $40
Despite it being very close to my house, Cancun won’t be replacing Anejo, La Bamba or Ocho Cafe for us...
Read moreOpening Day at Cancun Express here is my honest review as a Mexican food connoisseur. Pros: Birria tacos flavorful, assortment of sauces to choose from, nice outside area Cons: portions are small don’t expect to leave stuffed , for the cost the portions should be larger, after the 3rd topping they charge you each topping a $1 even for lettuce and cilantro. Cheese should be at least automatically free on a burrito, they don’t fill the burrito with much (for example I asked for jalapeños I got 2 in the whole burrito, especially when I’m paying extra for toppings throw some more on). It look 35 minutes for 2 items. The Mexican rice has celery which I have not had in a Mexican rice before, was not a fan. Going forward I would recommend that instead of having you order at the front, make it like a chipotle where you go down a line. It will save them a lot more time rather than ordering at the front and then they are unsure who’s food is who’s. Lastly up your portions if you are charging 14 starting not including extra toppings or cheese for burritos quesadillas and taco. Specialty tacos are also small so they should include at least one side instead of charging an additional $5 for rice. In total for 2 items and 1 drink...
Read moreOk, my kids and I went to this place hoping it would be good....dude! These guys know what's up. The food was excellent. High quality, fresh ingredients and a very nice staff. We each got a different type of meat and they were all on point. They have five different types of salsa each in varying degrees of spice. I also got a side of Spanish rice and refried beans. Zero complaints. The best part is they actually use salt in their food! Definitely check this place out if...
