Outstanding. Everything it's cracked up to be. I was especially impressed by maitre d Sean and manager Debbie. Bravo zulu! This place is fairly easy to get to, close to the highway with good parking; it's a little bit of walk for folks with limited mobility- although handicapped parking is available near the entrance, it's still possibly just a little long for folks who don't ambulate so well, but that's just a word to the wise heads up, not a gripe. I arrived without a reservation late Tuesday and was greeted at the podium by Sean, announcing the imminent arrival of a party of seven. Sean turned to and worked with efficiency and aplomb. Sean was friendly and engaging, and in a very few minutes the table was prepared. When it turned out the party was slightly smaller than expected, he simply moved things to a more convenient andnappropriate size table without batting an eye. When the five of us were seated, our waitress was efficient and professional, being present without being pushy if you know what I mean. Orders were taken, suggestions were solicited and offered, and soon we all ate too much! I highly recommend the Reuben balls appetizers- those were so tasty we had another order of them. The camp cracker was also yummy. The margaritas were perfect. My French onion soup and lobster grilled cheese were everything I was hoping for (and I had been examining the menu and anticipating this trip from Texas for several weeks). A member of my party shared a snake tip and mozzarella... I wonder if I can get a takeaway order to bring on the plane? Manager Debbie came by to check on things partway through the meal and was cheerful and amusing. Those who had room for dessert got a snowball and a chocolate cake and shared bites, it was unsurprisingly delicious. When the cheque came it came with several chunks of white chocolate. The prices were fair...
Read moreFosters... what have you done?! For the longest time, Fosters Boiler Room was a great addition to the Common Man line up but really, they messed up BIG TIME. I mean, the atmosphere was nice, and the desert was AMAZING! But not even that save this dying restaurant. So first of all, there was like nobody in the whole restaurant (but then again, it was a monday) and we decided to order a plate of onion rings. When they came out they look amazing and, they were ok. But next thing you know, there's a giant pile of grease (like STRAIGHT UP GREASE)! There was so much, my mom got freaked out by it and my dad was able to draw stuff with the grease! It was terrible. Then finally came out our food. We thought this might be able to save Fosters but no. The only person that got a good dinner right when it came out was my twin, Mason. The rest of the food was... blah. My fish and chips was SO greasy and didn't taste real good but, we'll get to that later. My mom's salad was like soy sauce soup with lettuce in it. We had to reorder the stupid salad! My dad's dinner he said was OK so, yeah. Well, back to the fish. So, I got the fish and chips and, it was greasy and huge! I started eating it but, I started to feel bad after like, the tenth bite. So we decided to just use it in tacos at home but, it didn't make the journey. We got in the car and after like 1 minute, we stopped at a gas station and threw it away. Overall, didn't like it and we probably won't go there again unless, they pull it together. Here's an idea Common Man: open a dessert shop instead, and shut down this...
Read moreFirst of all, the atmosphere of this place!!! You feel like you're stepping back in time - in a good way! It's in an historic, well maintained and beautifully decorated hotel. Nice, low lighting, but not too dark, and SO cozy. I've been there twice, and had a consistently 4/5 experience each time. THE GOOD: Friendly, fast service. The staff is nice and attentive. The food tastes good. Complimentary cheese and crackers 😁. I've tried a few dishes, and they've all tasted good. Again, the rustic, cozy atmosphere! THE NOT-AS-GOOD: The portions 🤨. The prices are 'ok', especially considering how much things cost nowadays, but the portions are small. I got the steak tips, and there were 3 bite-size tips with a scoop of mashed potatoes on a small, oval plate. I was hungry, so that was a disappointment. It was delicious, but I was hungry again an hour later. Other items had better, but still not huge, portions. RECOMMENDED ITEMS: The ahi poké app! Steak tips, if you're already full and want something to nibble on. Stuffed chicken - ok portion, but not going to satisfy a hungry person. Their salads are fresh and delicious. VALUE: We were a group of 3. One entree each, a couple of iced teas, two desserts. (We all enjoyed the cheese and crackers before the food came out). Total came to $94 before tip. I would definitely go back, all things considered. Call ahead might be necessary; we waited quite a bit the first time, and got seated right away the...
