Went for lunch with another couple on a Saturday, Not busy at all, quite empty actually. They did a good job rehabbing the Old George's Seafood, place looked nice.
We had to wait for one person, but, felt somewhat rushed. There's a difference between attentiveness, and rushing a table. I eventually had to pip up and let the waitress know we are waiting for another person, and her response was like I was kidding or lying. Truly offended and told her that I was not kidding. She made some comment walking away. Our final guest came along, and I pointed this out to the waitress, and said, see, I wasn't kidding. And again, every minute she was back to take our order.
I actually blame the establishment for this. I know very well the difficulty in getting good staff, but it is up to management to train them and hold them, to standards.
Food was OK. I ordered the Carnitas. The 3 small tacos had a good portion of meat, but there had to be no less than half tablespoon plus of oil with each one, and were not crispy. I realize that the pulled pork is fried in lard or oil, but, should be drained of the oil before plating onto the tortilla. I make these myself. There was no fresh cilantro or raw onion. Rice was OK, a little bland and dry. The Mole was thin. Wife had the Sopes, but were mushy, not crispy.
Considering there are two other Mexican restaurants in the area, I cannot see me coming back.
REPLY TO OWNER I do not recall her name, she was about 5' 4" I'd say. Nice personality actually, don't remember her in Bristol. We did not reach out to you as we were trying to have an important conversation. Since we mentioned a party of four, and there were four place settings, an attentive waiter/ess would have seen we were waiting for someone, and not insult me. An attentive waiter/ess would have seen we were deep in discussion, and would not keep interrupting us. You may want to consider a little updated training for your staff. Again, there is a difference between attentiveness and rushing. Also, maybe work on the prep. The oiliness and non-crispness, etc. needs to be dealt with.
PRO TIP FROM A MARKETING PERSON: With today's economy, going out to dine is a bit of a luxury. Treat each guess as royalty, each dish as if you are going...
Read moreI follow a plant-based diet and was looking forward to the vegetable fajitas, which were described as including grilled zucchini, corn, green and red peppers, onions, sweet potato, summer squash, and poblanos topped with cheese. I requested mine without cheese (due to dietary preference) and corn (due to concerns about GMO), and was genuinely excited to try the dish.
Unfortunately, the meal I received was quite underwhelming. It consisted almost entirely of undercooked onions and red and green peppers. There were only a few small pieces of sweet potato, a single slice of zucchini, and none of the summer squash or poblanos. The sweet potato seemed overly soft, likely pre-cooked or frozen, and the rest of the vegetables were barely cooked—more raw than grilled. While I do enjoy raw food, fajitas are traditionally served well-cooked and sizzling, which was not the case here. I’ve had many Mexican dishes in the past and have never experienced fajitas presented like this.
Additionally, the seating area we were placed in was small and felt overcrowded, with no natural light—just painted "submarine-style" windows on the walls, which made the atmosphere less pleasant.
That said, I want to sincerely thank our server. She was knowledgeable, polite, attentive, and ensured our orders were taken correctly. Her professionalism and warm demeanor helped make an otherwise disappointing experience more bearable. She truly deserves recognition for her...
