We are new to Poland but have been here a few times because the smokehouse burgers are killer, as are the mocktails. Service is always very friendly. The fries are very good, and huge portions, but I think fries should be served with condiments or sauce. They have a garlic fry and a Parmesan fry in particular that should have some kind of aioli, but there isn’t one and you have to ask for ketchup or mayonnaise at the table.
We brought family with us last night to show them how great it was, but it was a weirdly bad experience. I’ve always felt the second floor smells horrible, and I hold my breath when I walk through it to the patio. I have no idea why it reeks but it’s awful. What I didn’t expect was for the outdoor patio to also smell bad. I think it was the trash which you could see sitting in a bin by the back door. Other customers were complaining because it really was nauseating. I heard the table next to us talking about how they asked a staff person why it stinks and they said they didn’t smell it. The people at my table said they couldn’t smell it for what it’s worth.
Worst of all, since we were there last they have replaced the normal chairs on the patio with strange, too tall (kind of like half between a chair and a bar stool) metal seats that are extremely uncomfortable. You have to half sit half stand because the seat is maybe 12” square, and we were sliding out of them. We are average sized people but we all had to sit weirdly for the whole meal, with only the back of our bums on the seat and legs kind of straight down to hold us on the seat. You couldn’t just rest and sit back during your meal and it was so uncomfortable. That combined with the smell of the rancid trash in the heat was a big disappointment to me.
I probably won’t return for table service again. I don’t want to sit inside on the main floor because it lacks atmosphere and is often crowded and noisy. The second floor is not a room I could ever eat in as it consistently reeks. Now that the patio chairs are torture devices for me I’m done with the patio too. Maybe we can get the picnic tables next time. Or maybe we will just do takeout.
All of these problems are so easy to fix. It doesn’t make sense why the place smells or why they’d downgrade the seating. I’m attaching a photo of the weird seat with a fork for...
Read moreAt first they wanted to seat us in the middle of the room by the incoming hallway and we suggested no thank you. We already had a couple friends that had visited the restaurant that week so we knew what to ask for and what to not regarding our tastes and their suggestions. The small cup of fish chowder tasted like milk and flour with no seasoning at all. I had to ask the bartender for a shaker of salt and then I didn't even finish it all. Please work on that. My boyfriend had the Cuban sandwich with the onion strings and both of those were very good. We started with the timberwood mushroom toast which was very tasty and my only suggestion to the lady that checked up on us, which was not our waitress, I did suggest if they toasted it very well it wouldn't have gotten so soggy that we needed to eat it with a fork and knife and not have been able to pick it up as toast. I had the lobster crusted fish. It was on a bed of risotto that was overwhelmed with red pepper and shallots to the point that I picked out every single red pepper and a shallot and tried to enjoy what was left of the risotto. The fish was slightly overdone as the lobster crust was actually very crusty, which dried out the fish a little bit. I will say the young girl that waited on us was nice and the other staff that brought things to us were very nice and I do hope that they take our suggestion of seasoning the chowder and laying off the red peppers and shallots in the risotto. I would have rather had plain risotto and brought out the flavor of the lobster in the fish than everything being overwhelmed by those...
Read moreLet me start with the positives. The hostess who greeted us at the door was friendly and explained the discrepancy in the signage - Nonesuch on roadside and Cindy’s on the building. Not a great start. We asked to be seated upstairs in the bar area as the ground level dining room looks like the dining area of a convalescent home. I was pretty shocked to see the second floor had not been updated with new ownership- like at all. I was even more shocked to see the Scarborough prices coupled with the 1970’s furniture and the stained carpet, not to mention the ceiling fan from 1986. Not good folks. The beer is decent and seems consistent with Scarborough/ canned offerings in stores. Our waitress was pleasant, but was way more interested in her side work than serving us. The fish chowder had zero flavor - none. I’ve never tasted such flavorless chowder, which isn’t great since I’ve lived in New England for the better part of my 50 years and have consumed a lot of chowder. The salt and vinegar dusted fries were mediocre, but again, lacked seasoning. It’s a good thing I didn’t order the 15$ red wine in a place that doesn’t even partially match up to the prices. The bartender was pleasant ( I had to get up from my table and order my own beer or I would still be sitting there waiting for my waitress to stop doing her side chores). I don’t leave many negative reviews. I am more apt to rave about the hard work of the staff in local establishments or leave a note of praise. This place is not it. Not even remotely congruous with it’s namesake and sister restaurant. I hope they...
