Legendary spot.
We have been going for many years now, but my most recent visit was early on a chilly fall morning. The light of dawn cracked through the clouds over Pontiac bleakly. As I wiped the creeping remnants of vivid dreams from my brow and scanned the hilly shadows of South Paddock Street, the donut shop emitted from the neighborhood an illustrious, neon beacon of hope and inspiration.
Entering the claustrophobic café is a nostalgic wall of empty donut boxes on the glass that will all be gone by 1pm and the smell of flour and sugar. Cascading past that, my eyes surveyed the baskets: the fruity pebble one, and that sinful peanut butter/chocolate number. I remember buying that for my wife on mother's day and sharing it in ecstasy. It's so good.
I ordered a dozen pumpkin glaze, a dozen cinnamon sugar, and their last four sour cream pumpkin (the seasonal offerings are delightful, and I was intending to pair them with fresh apple cider for some clients). The woman at the register kindly offered me two more of the pumpkin sour cream. She said they would be out right away, but I declined because it was really more of an indulgence.
After paying, I waddled off to the side with my boxes. My body was still tired and confused by the splendor of the old fluorescent lights. Then I slipped away amid the rust-coloured industry of Woodward on a Wednesday - now with a gay demeanor (because of the donuts).
Avon is one of those rare places that hasn't needed to shrinkflate its menu. The product speaks for itself, and it 100% has earned its right to call their donuts gourmet. The coffee isn't bad either.
I can't imagine what people would complain about here. Are you gonna go around with a cotton swab to grade the cleanliness? Are you going to whine about lack of seating or the fact they didn't have their specialty donuts available at 12:30pm on Saturday? Grow up. This is an old-school donut shop with classic charm. This is the kind of donut you buy to impress your in-laws. This is the kind of donut that you get to steal the show at your friend's brunch.
If you haven't been here and you are craving a real sinker (colloq.),...

Read moreI was craving a donut on a Saturday morning coming back from grandsons baseball game. I go through Pontiac and I googled donuts..Avon was open busy and attracts the most happy customers! I had someone hold the door open for me everybody talk to each other.. You can call in and place an order for donuts to make sure you get the kind you want, but even after the morning Rush there was still selection.
Very friendly employee staff waiting on you.
I got my sugar rush.. Glazed donut great taste fluffy..a Pumpkin cake donut great taste... I'm old enough to remember donuts being $3 a dozen..so paying the going rate of $1.75 each for singles. It's a better rate when you buy a half dozen or a dozen.. but the average person in there was buying or a nice treat and a cup of coffee to go!
There's also an ample inside area to drink a coffee and have a donut and even meet people there. I'd say space for 10 comfortably..
I had to smile..2022 it's the price for convenience and keeping this wonderful little institution up and running.. I am definitely going back. Support your local small businesses, it's...
