This is my favorite restaurant. I have been coming here for 4 years. The first time I came here I loved it. It was my first introduction to Indian food, and I can say after being to a few Indian places since.. it is still my favorite. I eat here at least once a week, sometimes more. I have tried at least half the menu. It is hard to want to try new things here because you can easily fall in love with a dish, but i recommend branching out and trying different things. This is how I have found my favorite things to eat here. Every dish I have had is at a minimum, really good. I love the lamb vindaloo, butter chicken, lamb rogan josh, chicken tikka masala, chicken 65, c-momo chicken, garlic shrimp, the samosas, and a couple others.
Eating inside is great. The service has always been top notch the many times I have been there. I have brought friends here for their 1st time and they loved the food and the experience. I enjoy bringing people here for their 1st time at eating Indian food. They have a bar, and can serve liquor. The whiskey sour with the Indian twist is something I usually get when I go. They have some good beers as well.
Getting their food to-go or delivered is also a win. It's as good as you can get without actually being there when it first comes out. Perhaps it is the way Indian food comes when in a curry, but even the tandoori chicken or chicken 65, or the Naan is still great when delivered. Dishes like the vindaloo, or butter chicken, rogan josh, masala, etc, might even be better sitting for a minute. I get it delivered all the time and have never been upset at the quality or portion.
The dishes generally come with a long grain white rice. It fits perfectly with the food/sauce. You can choose to get it very spicy or not at all. I have tried the spiciest they cook and it is quite the experience. It is not your normal spicy. It has a sort of heat that builds after every bite. It become hotter the more you eat it. It is almost like a religious experience, between the runny nose and tears and the state of mind it can put you in... but the flavor is there the entire time. The spice isn't the flavor, it is like another variable at which you can choose how much heat you want toward the dish. I recommend a 2 out of 5, even if you generally like spicy. After trying that, you can get a good gauge on how spicy you want your food there. I have went with friends who like spicy food and even a 3 is too spicy for them.
Overall this is my favorite place to eat. So many great dishes and I still to this day try new things and am never not satisfied. Always pleased with the food and service. (This is a place where vegetarians and vegan friends can also...
Read moreCurry is an acquired taste. The lunch I had at Taj Indian Restaurant had only a slight hint of curry. I ordered the Chicken Korma which consists of chunks of chicken in a creamy tomato and onion based sauce. The curry in the cream sauce was not overbearing whatsoever. White rice comes with your order of Chicken Korma.
As an appetizer, I had the Garlic shrimp. The sauce the shrimp is smothered in is like no other. It has the looks and consistency of salsa but with an Indian kick. Be warned though, there is a kick of heat in the spice they mix in with the sauce. The waiter will ask you however how hot you would like your spice. I very much highly recommend the Garlic Shrimp. If anything, just come here for the Garlic Shrimp. Well worth the $13 in my humble opinion.
As a side, I ordered the Garlic Naan. Basically is looks like a tortilla flatbread baked in an oven topped with butter and garlic. I used it to fold up and scoop my Chicken Korma as a spoon. Very delicious combination in lieu of the steamed white rice I might add.
For my beverage I wanted something conducive to India and thus I chose the Bira Ipa. I've been to many breweries and tried many of the local drink. I must admit, this beer wasn't too bad. It's a pale ale with a definite unique taste. I would recommend this beer if you're in the mood for something different. The cost was $6 and I felt it was at least worth it..you be the judge.
Finally dessert. I ordered the Chocolate Samosa. It is two pieces of fried pastry stuffed with dark chocolate and cashew. Hot chocolate sauce was drizzled on the 2 pieces of pastries I had served on my dish. The chocolate on the inside was warm and sweet. The cost was $6 and in my opinion, I'm surprised they don't charge more. Most spectacular flavor.
The atmosphere was very pleasing. I most definitely enjoy it when they have music playing in the background that is conducive with the theme of the type of cuisine they are serving in addition to the paintings and art work displayed on the wall.
My only small complaint is my waiter wore only a dark t-shirt, jeans and white sneakers. Not to mention, when he placed my platter on the table, the bottom of his bare thumb was firmly deep inside of the platter where my food would be in contact with...not a very sanitary practice.
In Port St. Lucie, if you are curious about Indian food and want to try a different style of delicacy, by all means, I recommend Taj Indian Restaurant.

Read moreDo not order from this restaurant especially if you are having it delivered through third party ie. afoot Dah, Grub Hub. They do not honor special instructions even though they are placed there on the websites. We waited an hour and a half for delivery only not to have our special instructions granted. So we asked for 2 sides of sauce Korma, and Vindaloo and we’re happy to pay extra for it. They did not send the sauce, and when called to speak to them they said they don’t do that cause it is an up charge. We were well aware of that. The solution if not able to charge on website is to call the customer or delivery service to have them add charge if that is the problem. They did not call us. When called to speak to them they wanted us to pick up sauce and charge $ 9 each sauce for an additional $18 on our already $70 order for 2 people cause we all know these delivery companies price gauge. I was told to call Door Dash? Door Dash did not make the error. Yak did by not including sauce and not calling client or Door Dash to see if we wanted for extra fee. Just disregarding a request is unacceptable. We then asked for a small credit back to card for waiting so long and missing items, and they would not grant a $5 credit for the trouble and inconvenience and to keep a customer happy. Very poor customer service. Even after saying you would rather lose a customer and have a bad review written they still wouldn’t credit...
