This place is intentionally deceptive to get customers to unknowingly tip. The checkout page doesn’t show a scroll bar on the right of the page, purposely leading people to not notice that the page scrolls down. On iPhone, websites don’t show the scroll bar unless you touch the screen and start to scroll then the scroll bar animation appears. Not on their website though. No scroll bar animation no matter what you do. If you scroll down you’ll see a tip is automatically added. Absolutely despicable. You lost a customer for life you deceptive greedy business! Pay your employees instead of deceiving customers to tip. It’s counter service. You make a sandwich and then as a customer I walk up to the window and pick up my food. You place your order online and don’t even interact with the staff. What did you do to warrant a tip? Shake my head to your embrace of greedy toxic tip culture. If I sat down and was served, then that’s different. Zero stars.
It’s a good thing my credit card company will take my money back from these deceptive crooks. Crooks.
Looking at the owner’s response to other negative reviews, it’s obvious that they take these negative comments too personally and don’t care to hear negative feedback. Grow up. They act like a child. Refuting a customer’s claim that the sandwich they received had very little meat and photos were provided, commenting a poop emoji on another customer’s review, replying to a comment “they’re okay” with “you’re okay.” What a joke. Please don’t cry East Side Deli. I know I probably hurt your feelings. I hope you’ll get over it. Those salty tears probably don’t taste too good. They probably taste as bad as the soggy part of the bread on the...
Read moreI’m a regular customer and typically stop by almost every Monday. Katya and Elizabeth consistently provide excellent service they are friendly, welcoming, and they always prepare my sandwich exactly the way I like it. The experience is reliably great when they’re working. HOWEVER, I recently visited on a Wednesday and had a very disappointing experience. The service was handled by an older man with glasses, and it was unprofessional and rude. I ordered my usual roast beef sandwich (with cheese, lettuce, tomato, mayo, and pickles), along with three peanut butter cookies and two additional sandwiches for friends. I was sitting just outside the window while I waited. When the order was ready, he handed me the bag abruptly and said, “We’re out of peanut butter… you’ll survive, right?” in a harsh and dismissive tone. I was taken aback not only by the attitude but also by the lack of communication. He could have easily informed me while I was sitting just a few feet away before just assuming I’d be fine with chocolate chip. To make matters worse, when I got home, I found that my sandwich only had meat, cheese, and mayo, completely missing the other ingredients I ordered. It was incredibly frustrating, especially since I come regularly and usually have such a positive experience. I will continue coming back because the food and service are usually excellent, but I’ll avoid visiting on days when that particular employee is working. Also, I hope the online preorder system gets fixed soon, it used to be...
Read moreWe paid $12.00 for a 12" sandwich made with items I can buy at Fred Meyer. It was a thoroughly unimpressive and unbalanced affair. They aren't a "Deli" since nothing they sell is stuff they actually make themselves.
On their own, Boar's Head meats and cheeses are great, and so is the bread from the Portland French Bakery. What the people at East Side "Deli" do with said items is a joke. I can and often do make far better sandwiches at my own home with the exact same ingredients for far less money.
We will not ever go back to ESD and we will take every opportunity to educate those who are clueless about what actual good deli food is. Kenny and Zuke's comes to mind when it comes to a an actual Delicatessen in Portland, OR. They make everything regarding the meats, breads, bagels and salads/sides they sell in house. They are all fantastic as well. $12.00 there gets you an amazing sandwich, side and a house-made Kosher pickle.
