On the bright side, the Peacock Lane attraction is free and you can walk into the area as long as you can find parking (which can be pretty difficult). However, I did not have a very positive experience at this event. It's poorly organized, probably due to it being free, with a lot of bothersome crowds. People are not usually polite here and take no shame in standing in the way, or blocking the sidewalks with their strollers and/or bodies. There are people who cut into line without heed to their surroundings. I ended up leaving Peacock Lane disgruntled and venting to my partner about how frustrating and inconsiderate others can be. Also, there were definitely some nicely decorated homes with cool pop culture stands; however, they did not get as over-the-top as I would have expected from a tourist attraction. Sometimes I could see other houses more nicely decorated than those on Peacock Lane in other parts of town or even the suburbs. I do appreciate those who tried their best to engage in the festivities, and the caroling was cool, but this event needs better organization and for people to simply take the people around them into account.

Visiting Peacock Lane at Christmastime is a FREE and festive experience! This opportunity exists solely because homeowners are willingly spiking their electricity bills to amuse us around the holidays. I had my favorite displays but must note that every single house showcased their Christmas spirit in some way! Loved it. In terms of logistics, we stayed in our car and there was a steady flow of traffic wanting to come through, so you had to keep it moving to be polite. You can also go by foot and take your time enjoying it that way. Parking nearby will be tough but if you're willing to park a few blocks away, you'll find it fairly quickly. There are other Christmas light options that are staffed events but you'll have to pay, of course! The Grotto and Zoo Lights might be more your speed if you're looking for an event type of experience. It's heartwarming to know that Peacock Lane has been Portland's Christmas Street for a century – thanks to everyone on Peacock Lane for spreading the joy and merriment! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all!

I absolutely love seeing the Christmas lights and decorations on Peacock Lane. I've visited there during Christmas many times but have never seen it so crowded. We went around 7:30 PM on Wednesday Dec 18, 2024, one week before Christmas which was probably a peak time. I estimate we stood in line on a side street for about 20 minutes before we could actually walk down Peacock Lane. Thankfully we were not in a hurry and the lights and decorations were amazing and worth the wait. I probably would have given it 5 stars if it wasn't so crowded.
