I've lived in Portland for almost 20 years and, today, I had Apizza Scholls for the first time. Yesterday, as I was getting ready for work, my best friend and his wife asked me if I had heard of them. I told them I had heard the name, but I didn't know anything about them. They filled me in on Apizza Scholls reputation for making some of the best pizzas in the city. Now, I was curious. I asked them if they were personal pizzas or something larger. They said they were 18 inches. They also informed me that there was a crazy waiting list that they had been on for some time. Fortunately, some unlucky soul had to cancel and my friends got a call asking if they would be interested in a reservation for that evening, which they accepted. I told them to order too much so that there would be leftovers. They said they were ordering two. I left for work and immediately forgot about the entire conversation. When I got off at midnight; I headed to the nearest Taco Bell. They were pretty busy and the drive thru was moving slowly. After ordering, I checked my fb. At the very top of my feed were pictures of my friends smiling faces accompanied by a glowing review of Apizza Scholls. I had made a huge mistake. When I got to the window, I told the cashier I was an idiot and had forgotten my wallet at the house. I apologized for the inconvenience and left in a hurry. Upon returning home, I headed for the refrigerator and opened the door. On the second shelf was a plain brown pizza box taking up 80% of the available space. It was big, probably the second largest I'd ever seen.Somehow I managed to get the box over to the counter. Inside were several slices topped with pepperoni and other delicious looking meats. I grabbed a plate from the cupboard and threw a couple of slices in the microwave for one minute and forty-four seconds. There are two ideal temperatures for consuming pizza. Unheated straight out of the refrigerator or fresh out of the oven. Microwaving for one minute and forty-four seconds produces neither. It's just long enough to make the crust extra floppy but not long enough to fool you into thinking it might have been similar at the restaurant. The pizza deserved better. In spite of all that, I devoured those two slices. I can confidently tell you it was some of the best pizza I've ever had. The cheese to toppings ratio was perfect. The flavors were delectable. I even ate half of one of the crusts which I usually save for someone who appreciates them more than I. I can only imagine what it would taste like at the restaurant. One thing's for sure. I definitely won't be waiting another 20 years to have Apizza Scholls again.

While finding a true number one pizza in Portland online is a useless endeavor due to taste being entirely subjective, Apizza Scholls has managed to be on quite a few top 10s for a good reason. While bringing their own personal style to their pizza you can truly taste the quality and love that has been put into this pizza. For reference, I tried their Amatriciana pizza weighing in at 28 whole dollars for an 18-inch. And, you can taste the price, with whole strips of bacon being added to the pizza while also not feeling too greasy as one would get from the likes of Dominoes or Pizza Hut. The onions added on were just right, and not too in your face with its taste while the cheese was absolutely immaculate. The only downside to the pizza would be its crust after you get through the cheesy part of the pizza. Though that is more just to my personal taste and their own style, I can definitely see the appeal the crust may have to some people. But, everything else was divine with red chili peppers and ground pepper to the side to further boost the taste to the heavens. Once again trying to find the number one pizza online is futile but finding a pizza that deserves to be on one of the upper tiers in Portland is not, and Apizza Schools definitely earns its place as a common top 10 pizza restaurant in Portland.

When I ate this pizza in Portland, OR, I said it was the best pizza I’ve had outside of New Haven, CT. I had a feeling with “Apizza” in their name that that would be the case. Apizza Scholls is a slammed popular establishment and for absolutely good reason!… The base: The process of fermenting their dough takes close to 24 hours at room temperature, with a minimum amount of yeast. The slow fermentation produces flavor in the dough and also gives it the perfectly crackly and chewy texture. The pies I ordered that I was obsessed with: - Marinara - red sauce, garlic, mixed herbs, chili flake, black pepper, and evoo finished with sea salt and dressed Arugula. - Paulie Gee - Their Plain Pie + hot soppressata, ricotta, Sicilian oregano, and garlic topped with fresh basil and Mikes Hot Honey after baking. Their story: Owners Brian and Kim started out making pizzas in Scholls, OR in 2001. Their pies were often compared to those from pizzerias in New Haven, CT by many of their regulars. As a nod to those pizzerias that have Apizza in their name up north and their first bakery, they combined Apizza with Scholls for their Portland spot!

We arrived just before 5p (that's when they open) we were the first in line! About 5 minutes till 5 there was already about 10 people behind us. So get here early!! Menu is simple, with great suggestions or BYO, as well as a great drink selection. Try the pear cider!! We ordered a plain pie with extra cheese and hot honey, as well as a in house smoked Canadian bacon, pineapple, and of course hot honey to that one as well. We have found the hot honey at other places and loved it so thought we'd try it here as well. The pizzas are a big 18 inches so 2 pizzas between the two of us gives us lots of left overs!! The crust was thin and crunchy, the sauce tasted fresh and the toppings were on point! You also have the option to have regular or habenero ranch. We tried both, and though the habenero was obviously spicy, it added a great kick the the already great pizza. So far Apizza Scholls is our favorite pizza 🍕 in the Portland area. To add too the great pizza experience, the staff were friendly and helpful!!!

Finally got around to trying Apizza Scholls, it is a bustling pizza haven. With a party of three, despite the crowd, we were seated fairly quickly. The service was lightning-fast, and our glasses never went empty—quick water refills always! The menu offered an array of pizza options and we were offered sides like ranch (extra cost for hot honey). The pizza here is spectacular with a crispy crust that holds its own, and just the right amount of toppings without it being too floppy. Each ingredient tasted fresh and full of flavor. The ambiance is top-notch; great vibes all around. Impeccably clean and staffed with incredibly friendly individuals, this spot truly lives up to its reputation as one of Portland's finest pizza joints. If you're in town and searching for an exceptional pizza experience, this place is more than deserving of its accolades as one of the best in Portland! Bonus: their ice cream sandwiches are actually really good!

This has got to be hands down the best pizza i have ever tasted in America. The atmosphere in the restaurant is exactly what you would want. You can see the dough being made in the back, see and hear the communication with the team and smell the delicious food they are making. The caesar salad was delicious and it did trip me out a bit that it wasn’t chopped but after eating it i never want a chopped caesar again. The pizza now that was the perfect masterpiece to end our meal with. Every bite you took sounded like a commercial for what the dream pizza would sound like. The hot honey on the pizza was like gold being drizzled on top. I would be broke and very unhealthy if i lived close by to this shop because i would be here constantly. I will always recommend people come here when in portland from here on out. Can’t wait to go back and try all the other options. Keep doing amazing work y’all!
