They have some of the best coffee and food items you're going to have in all of Portland. The service still is not quite focused on their jobs more on side conversations, but they aren't rude for the most part except when you ask them for some kind of assistance. Unfortunately the friendliness has diminished amongst the customers which is not necessarily a strike against the business but when most of the customers are glaring at each other or making snide comments about other customers it's hard to be relaxed and just enjoy your order and whoever you're there with. That probably speaks more to the atmosphere of Portland. Don't let it keep you from going to a great business. Update 6/19/24. Service is taking a hit, just went in and ordered with one person ahead of myself and friend I was meeting, and no one behind and the employees making drinks were very friendly and nice however they were more interested in talking to each other and not making drinks by time we got our order a line had formed and they had made two drinks that were ordered after us while we were standing in front of them and didn't say sorry or imply that they had skipped us at all. It took 10 minutes to get two drinks made, actually 4 drinks if you count the ones they made before ours. Let's make it worse! I ordered a black tiger shake to take with me and again no line and two drinks ahead of me and they make 4 drinks before they make mine and act like all is good, so keep any eye on them because they do not care...
Read moreReally, really great coffee and lattes there. I was there in mid-afternoon, though, they weren't busy, but 7 tables inside and 1 table outside had crumbs on them; makes you wonder how clean any of the tables really were. There was a spray cleaner and rag next to the bus cart...does that mean we are to clean our own table in addition to bussing it? If so, put a note somewhere so people know. Otherwise you just have a bunch of dirty, unappetizing tables sitting there empty. Again, great coffee and a great latte. I will be back; just confused about the dirty tables that could have been cleaned by staff standing behind the counter.
So went back today, 2 weeks later to have another latte which was delicious! But again...2 of 3 outside tables and 5 inside tables had visible crumbs on them. Not inviting at all to sit down with your latte. Makes me wonder how clean the other empty tables are even though they didn't all have visible crumbs. On the plus side, you can always clean your own table because the bus cart and spray cleaner are...
Read moreJim & Patty's has a big Portland history - "Google" Coffee People and you'll probably find out more of it. The owners still make the "sour cream coffeecake" and are the home of much more than that now. I like their breakfast sandwiches, which come on a large biscuit (or toast) and my personal favorite is an apple-cinnamon roll. Those sell out fast, unfortunately, The coffeehouse packages day old items as "prison food" and sells them for $1.75. The drinks are in four sizes with more shots than at Starbucks, they also use Stumptown Coffee and even have their own blend. My preferred beverage is the Mocha Borgia, made with a slice of real orange. They are open mornings and afternoons, but do not serve lunch food so if you're looking for something other than coffee/espresso, pastries, egg-based breakfast dishes, smoothies or milkshakes, you should look to another...
