El Tapatío Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in Powell

This is the real deal for Mexican food. The service was fast and friendly. Eventhough this was our first time at El Tapatio we were treated like valued regular guests. The beef chimichanga was great. Really good flavor smothered in real green chili (not the green enchilada sauce, but real green chili). The rice and beans were really good with a homemade taste. The chili relleno was by far the best that I've had in Wyoming. The beef enchilada in red sauce was ok. The beef and bean burrito smothered in green chili was good. Portion size versus price was a good value. I felt like I got my money's worth. Except for the guacamole. At $6.50 for an order of guacamole I truly expected more. What we received was a typical size serving bowl that is common among Mexican restaurants for guacamole orders. The bowl we received was half filled with shredded lettuce with a plop of guacamole on top. I estimate about 1/2 cup of guacamole, which to me, is not a good value for the price. We went on a Saturday night. It was very busy and they are seat yourself. We found an oddly shaped booth (the table was longer than the seat). Right away they got us drinks and a very small bowl of chips (5 people at the table). Then no one returned for at least 20 minutes. A waitress served both the tables around us, but not us. I started making eye contact with every employee I could. My husband was ready to just leave. Finally someone came (with a brief apology) and took our order and left a pitcher of ice water (a sign they know they won't be able to be very attentive to you). We ordered an adult entree for two young children to split. The runner delivered our food and asked if we'd like an extra plate. We said yes. Never saw him again. The waiter came and said he'd get us an extra plate. He forgot and didn't return until our meal was finished. Also beware that there's a healthy dose of cinnamon in their ground beef items. Was passing through and wanted to give this spot a try. Overall the food is good and I would say you couldn't go wrong with anything on the menu. Service is strange and honestly needs improvements. I was treated as if I didn't belong and was never once checked on nor asked about my food. The wait staff seemingly threw my plate on the table and left abruptly without asking if I needed anything else. Finally I sat for 20 minutes waiting for my check and finally just went up to the counter where I was asked if I had my check and I said that I had never received it.
