deMaiz Taco Cantina — Restaurant in Prichard

Been watching this place for several months waiting for it to open. Decided to try if for lunch and was not disappointed in the selection. Having recently become hooked on Birria tacos I was happy to see a good selection of Birria options (tacos, birriadillas, and Birria tortas). Decided to try the Birria torta. It was really good more on a roast beef po boy taste, with the Birria dipping sauce but good. Service was spot on and very attentive. Will be back. Edit: Had stopped by here when it had first opened and was quite satisfied with the service and food. Must say though that since that visit I have been back about 10-15 times and the last few am losing faith in their service. We went there for dinner and after being sat and ordered drinks we were asked to move by the staff so they could connect the table we were at to another for a larger party. Our party was three and we were seated at a table made for four so it wasn't like we were taking up a large table. Anyway, we moved and after about 30 minutes had not been waited on. We asked the hostess if we had a waiter and was told they had forgot us. The hostess asked 2 waitresses to take us and both seemed annoyed and said they were too busy. Another waitress overheard them arguing and took us. She was very apologetic for how they acted and was shocked that we had even been asked to move to start with.

Fast forward to my recent visit for lunch. I walked in with a co worker at 1105 am. There was one table seated and us. 25 minutes later we still had no server. Being lunch we were on a schedule so had to get up and leave...

First off...the entryway has a block wall to section off the door from the restaurant that just gets in the way. Only one door in and out, so it's difficult getting in and out. The music was so loud it was difficult to have a conversation at the table. And it's like club music, not your typical Mexican music.

Service was the best part and it was just what you would expect...nothing special.

As far as food...first basket of chips was only half full and half of them were broken into small pieces. I ordered three street tacos. The tortillas were tiny. Not the size of a regular corn tortilla. For $6 a piece I was shocked. The pork was OK. The braised beef was super dry and that tortilla was so hard it was more like a crunchy one. I special requested a shrimp street taco, because they are not on the menu. It was the best of the three, but overall they were the worst street tacos I've ever had. Doubt...

We live in West Mobile and decided to try this place. We never even got to a table. They told us it would be a 20-30 minute wait, which was fine. The place doesn’t really have anywhere to wait inside, there is no room for that, so they said they would text us when our table was ready. We sat in the car right in front of their restaurant. We got the text, and when we went in, the girl snidely told us … “sorry… we gave your table away… nothing available now… “ in a tone like “get lost buddy”. The time from us getting the text to walking in was less than a minute. We sat outside for 40 minutes to be treated that way. Got the impression this is a bunch of friends working there as they were smirking at us after it happened. So we have no idea how the food is, we won’t ever know because we won’t be back there. Customer service is the worst possible...
