We recently found ourselves in Pulaski at lunchtime so we made our way to The Hickory House Restaurant and couldn’t have been more pleased with our choice. Found at 330 South Patterson St. their hours are; Monday closed, Tuesday-Thursday 11a-8p, Friday & Saturday 11a-9p, Sunday 11a-2:30p. Tuesday-Saturday they have plate lunches, the menu board changes daily, Saturday is menu only. Gayle seated us immediately and left the menu for us to peruse while she got our drinks. Gayle has worked here for 35 years, she loves this restaurant and is excellent at her job. The entire staff was friendly and fast to serve the hungry customers. They have a loyal lunch crowd who quickly fill up the tables. The menu offers a variety of options, together with the plate lunches on the board giving everyone delicious options. DanO chose the hamburger steak & Gravy, squash, green beans, and cornbread. He was thrilled that the cornbread was country style meaning no sugar. I enjoyed the Green Tomato BLT on Texas toast with fries. It is THE BEST BLT in our South Central Region! Gayle stated that they use only the best and freshest ingredients from the beef to their homemade deserts. While eating lunch, some good friends of ours showed up. They said that they eat there often and it’s always good. Don’t just Travel Tennessee…EXPERIENCE TENNESSEE!! #ExperienceTN #sctta #nbby #gilescountychamberofcommerce #hickoryhouserestaurant

Exceptional Southern Comfort Food & Wonderful Service! From the moment we walked into Hickory House, we knew we were in for something special. Our meal was nothing short of fantastic, and our server, Gale, was absolutely wonderful—warm, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed to enjoy our experience. We started with the fried green tomatoes and mushrooms, both fried to golden perfection. The tomatoes had just the right tangy bite, balanced by a crisp, seasoned crust, while the mushrooms were juicy and earthy, bursting with flavor in every bite. For the main course, the brisket was simply outstanding—tender, smoky, and so juicy it practically melted in my mouth. It paired perfectly with the green beans, which were slow-cooked and seasoned just right, giving them a deep, savory richness. The cucumber salad was a refreshing contrast, crisp and cool with a light, tangy dressing that balanced the heartier dishes beautifully. We also had the salmon patties, which were packed with flavor—flaky, moist, and seasoned with a perfect blend of herbs and spices. And then there was the chocolate cobbler—rich, decadent, and sinfully good, with a gooey, molten center and a slightly crisp topping that made every bite pure heaven. Just when I thought it couldn’t get any better, I finished with the cast iron cookie and vanilla ice cream—and it was to die for! The cookie arrived warm, with a crisp golden edge and a soft, gooey center, while the vanilla ice cream melted into it perfectly, creating the ultimate sweet and creamy bite. The food, the service, and the atmosphere all exceeded expectations. Hickory House is a true gem, and I can’t wait to come back for another unforgettable meal!

The food was excellent and the service was exceptional. However, the restaurant was very busy (Friday night) and we were there about 2 hours, from getting seated to finishing our meal. I would still reccomend this restaurant as a great place to eat, but you may want to choose another night to visit. That said, I'll tell you about our food. I had the brisket sandwich and a side of baked beans. The brisket was tender and flavorful and I had a very generous portion on my sandwich. The baked beans were smoky and slightly sweet, a perfect compliment to the brisket. My husband had the cedar plank salmon, baked potato and cole slaw. The salmon arrived on the cedar that it was cooked over. My husband said it was very good. The baked potato was a generous size and came with enough butter to please anyone! The cole slaw was also very good. Our server was attentive and took very good care of us even though the restaurant was exceptionally busy. So be sure to stop in when you are in the area. Give yourself a little extra time if you are going on a Friday or Saturday. 😄

When we entered, we were told to seat ourselves. No big deal, except that no one tended to us after that point... And we were there at 3:30 in the afternoon... Not busy at all. Two girls were taking down the lunch buffet, numerous people seen walking around in the kitchen, and there were two girls standing at the register behind the counter chatting. I had to walk to the counter myself and ask for menus for us and a couple who had entered the same time we did. I was given the menus and silverware to take to the table myself and instead of someone offering to come help us out, one of the servers commented that the table was another server's responsibility. Our server then came, who was very nice and helpful, and took our order. It didn't take long to get our food but after getting it, we didn't see our server again... At least not at our table. Speaking of the food, it's a lot of food that matches the high price, but it was the worst tasting catfish we've ever had... And we've had plenty to compare to. It tasted like muddy water! I would not recommend it. Now, back to the service... Our server apparently was given the job to tend to the salad bar as well and you know how I already mentioned there being several other servers there standing around when we arrived? Again, several standing around and we were empty on drinks. Now, typically this would be on our server, but she was apparently given other duties that the other servers did not appear to be helping on and we had to take our cups to the counter and ask for refills ourselves. Our drinks were filled, but these workers really appeared to have the attitude of "it's not my job so I'm not doing it". To top it off, when we left, one of the the girls behind the front counter was eating while chatting with the others. Now, I've never done a review on a restaurant before because I've been there, I know the stresses of food service, but I also know what is not appropriate or acceptable. I could not go without letting others know what we experienced here and that we would not be going back. We chose this place because of the great reviews but I really feel misled.

A positive? The...

Drove from Huntsville Alabama to Hickory House to celebrate Mother's Day a day early with my family. We chose Hickory House based off of the great reviews it had online. We arrived at the restaurant and were quoted a 30 minute wait. We weren't seated until an hour later. Once seated, we were told that many of the items on the menu weren't available due to shortages of food. Our waitress took our drink orders and left. During this time, a party full of the owners friends were seated at a table near us. Our waitress returned with our drinks and quickly left before we could place our order so that she could go socialize with the party sitting at the other table. She talked with them for at least 10 minutes, then took their order ahead of ours. All the while, the party sitting at the table were using vulgar language and being very loud. My three younger siblings were disturbed by the display that these friends of the owner were putting on. So much so that my youngest brother had to put his hands over his ears due to the language. After not being waited on for 20 minutes due to the party of friends, my parents and I decided that it would be best for us to just pay for our drinks and leave. We spoke with the waitress and the manager on our way out and neither of them seemed to have much remorse for the events that lead up to our decision to leave. It's a shame we didn't get the chance to taste the food. We just couldn't justify to ourselves paying high prices for a limited selection of food, all while not being waited on and having to listen to the owners friends being allowed to curse. Based on this experience, I cannot recommend Hickory...
