Family of 4. We just finished our thali plates with Chapati bread. Unaware Dec 24-27 is Guru ka langar (“open kitchen”) at this location, the meal options were limited and vegetarian, but also pay is by donation. The sounds of Sikh meditation set the tone of the meal. We told the man at the front how many were in our party, unsure of how to order. He pointed to the open kitchen/community meal sign and said he would take care of the rest. After we sat, we realized every other booth and table were quickly taken as well. The service was excellent and fast. Hot food was placed before us immediately. The thali plate had chana masala, onions, bread and rice. The Chana masala (chickpea) dish was seasoned perfectly and delicious. Not too spicy. The bread was fluffy, airy, crispy and hot, not dense like naan. And the Kheer (white rice pudding) was sweet and creamy. We’ll be back to try their typical menu options when we drive through again. My kids tasted everything but didn’t finish, but this isn’t the typical food we eat while road-tripping, so it was something new for us. We went in with the attitude that we would not be too picky, and with an open mind. My kids love any Indian chicken dish, so we need to come back on a non-vegetarian day for redemption. Thank you to this restaurant for being so charitable and giving over the...
Read moreThe food was fresh and delicious. The atmosphere was extremely casual. It's basically a small store with tables. The decor makes it obvious they cater to truckdrivers from the Love's across the street. You order at the front counter. The menu is written on a whiteboard. I asked for descriptions of some of the dishes and recommendations since I didn't know a lot about Indian food, but didn't receive much help in that regard. I ordered a platter with the chicken curry and two of the vegetarian options. I also ordered the Chicken Biryani. The food came in about 5 minutes. I thought the platter would be big enough to share, so I only ordered one for the two of us, but it was only big enough for one person. We shared it anyway. The person who took my order said the Chicken Biryani was an appetizer, so I expected to get just sample size, but I got a huge Styrofoam container full of it! There was enough for at least four people, so we had some to take home. If you're looking for a real dining out experience, this is not the best place. The food is served on plastic and Styrofoam with plastic utensils. The atmosphere is lacking, but the...
Read moreWent with a dear friend for lunch today. The food was free today, and they served a wonderful meal that they had set an advance menu for, like a tasting plate. There was a curry dish with tofu and peas, lightly spicy but not overly, a red lentil dish with chickpeas, sliced red onion garnish on the side, naan of course, and a pudding dessert that has nutmeg and almonds, slightly sweet. It was absolutely delicious! I don't care for spicy foods but the curry dish was so good I finished it anyway. The lentil dish wasn't spicy at all, and was also excellent. I really enjoyed the dessert. It was just sweet enough to know it was a dessert, and the flavors went very well together. The service was respectful and courteous and staff returned often to offer additional hot naan, the place is spotlessly clean, and they even have some snack foods for sale. I didn't check those out while I was there but will go back to do so. I can't say enough good things about this new restaurant! I hope they do well here in our little town, they're certainly giving it...
