Short review: Empty restaurant. 4 of us went. 3 of us got souvlaki and 1 got gyros meal. We also got saganaki. The saganaki is the only thing any of us enjoyed although the presentation was across the room and felt rushed. Waitress didn't have the best table service either, seemed inattentive or like she didn't want to be there.
Full review: This restaurant used to be located on the other side of town, like 5th and main or so. When at that location we used to love going there! It was one of our favorite restaurants to go to and we always got the same thing because it was so good; saganaki appetizer, my mom and i got souvlaki with fries and Greek salad, and souvlaki with fries and salad bar for my fiance. I craved that cheese and the Greek salads! It was the higher priced of our favorite restaurants which sometimes kept us from going as often as we would have liked, but it was always a special outing treat to go. The waitstaff was usually lack luster but never enough to stop us from going just for that reason.
At some point they increased their prices and we had to take it out of the running. I learned how to make it myself at home and had been doing so for quite some time. The cheese I made was never quite right and I definitely didn't know how to replicate the salad dressing right, but to save the money it worked because I feel I got the souvlaki and tzatziki dead on and the cheese was super close, especially once Hyvee started carrying kaseri cheese (similar to the kefalograviera they use at the restaurant I've read).
Shortly after we stopped going there they moved to a new location and we were curious but just never made it out there. Yesterday was our first time back, I went with my fiance, my mom, and my step dad.
My mom and I got our usual, my fiance got his usual, and my step dad got the gyros meal. As usual we also got saganaki.
The greek salad was different. The positive of this was the addition of other vegetables that weren't in it before. The negative was that the salad dressing tasted different and bland. That outweighs the positive for my mom and I both because the dressing was what made us crave them and unable to replicate at home!
The saganaki was delicious as usual. The presentation was upsetting though. This restaurant is much larger than the last location they were in. Previously the saganaki was presented table side and so it was an intimate presentation that was fun to experience. This time it was across the whole restaurant and was done so quick that by the time we all realized it was happening it was already up in flames and was nearly ready to be put out with the lemon juice. We all missed the ignition of the flame.
The chicken was off for all 3 of our souvlaki dinners. Like it wasn't from fresh chicken, perhaps frozen or processed chicken of some kind. The meat in the middle of my skewer was cold to the touch and we all thought the texture was off, rubbery and strange. It also didn't taste like the same seasoning. It used to be really bright and lemony. With a nice pop of oregano or similar spice. This time I didn't taste any lemon and the other flavors seemed different and lacking in salt. My mom and I only ate a couple pieces and took it home to see if microwaving it would help. My mom ended up not even eating it, and the microwave didn't help mine!
The tzatziki wasn't as cucumber-y as I remember it either. I remember it as a cucumber yogurt with hints of dill. This seemed more like yogurt with dill and hint of cucumber. But the texture was spot on!
Overall it was a nostalgic meal but mostly disappointing since I know what it has been before and could be again! Until then I will just keep making it since all 3 people at the table with me said...
Read moreSadly I have to give at least 1 star. Heres my recent experience. I recently started driving for Doordash Upon arrival the owner was being rude to a customer. (My delivery) Telling him he could not ask prices or ask about menu items on the phone. He told me to go somewhere else and wait 15 minutes for my order. (Turned into 45). I still waited inside. I observed him handling raw foods, then the telephone and prepared foods all without washing his hands. Neither was his helper I assume his mom? Idk. Nor wearing gloves. No ac in building so pretty warm as well. He then placed a bag on the counter I assumed was mine. I approached and never touched the bag. He pointed at me 2x and told me to get away and take a seat. (Getting angry now). Finally order is ready 45 minutes later. I told the waitress he needs to fix his attitude and walked out. The owner is now waiting for me outside. And aggressively approached me. Tells me i am never to come in his restaurant and grab another customers food. Which I never did. Then proceeded to call me a joke and my job a joke. Then tells me to f off and to go f myself. Also told me to study his menu. So I wouldn't order items...
Read moreThis place is a scam and deserves negative stars. Ordered 4 gyros, 1 burger, hummus with extra pita, double orders of fries and onion rings. It was the hottest day of the year to date, asked for a glass of water while waiting for food, was told it was 50 cents a glass, after spending 50 dollars and 35 cents. Then it was home with the food. Normally one assumes that one is provided with what one has paid for. Returned home to find that the order was wrong and that the fries and onion rings were not edible. Called the place to inform them of the error and ask for resolution. Was rudely told to come back in and pay again for the missing food. In addition the person answering the phone was relaying to the boss in the back ground, so I could hear him being abrasive while blaming the server. Guess the customer is always wrong and to be screwed at this place. Save your money and stomach by not...
