I have been here many times since this Vietnamese restaurant has opened and when they had just opened, the food pretty good and flavorful! Fast forward 2 years later and the foods flavor is still there in some dishes but the last few times I’ve eaten here, the pho broth has been terrible and tasted only of salt and was way too salty. The rice noodles are also not fresh and have been clumped together and hard when I’ve eaten there in person. I had just gotten pickup to go a few nights ago with my friend and we ordered three egg noodle soups and a pho tai. All 4 of the soups broths were all way too salty and there was no flavor to the broth which therefore ruined the meats and veggies of the soup. The veggies and meats and wontons were all fresh, but the broth is what makes or kills the soup! I’m Vietnamese myself and know what’s authentic and this place isn’t it. It’s not the best place to get pho but it will do in a pinch. Eat here if you don’t mind your food over doused in salt and can handle all the that sodium. All that salt ruined our meals and we wasted $50 on takeout for terrible over salted food. The beef stew with egg noodle wasn’t good and the broth again was very way too salty and it had a weird sweet flavor to it too. I prefer Pho ABC’s broth over Pho Fresh’s broth any day, Pho ABC’s broth isn’t any trying special, but at least it’s not overly salty at the end of the day and don’t give me chest pain like the way too salty beef stew did at Pho Fresh. After eating the beef stew here two nights ago for dinner, all that salt gave really and chest pain on the right side of my chest. It went away the next morning but it was definitely the beef stew and how salty it was. This restaurant didn’t use to be this salty! Something has changed, and the broth and dishes are not the same anymore. The chef change maybe and has made every single dish way too salty since this last past year. Others are noticing the same thing about how salty the dishes are and the soup broths! I hope they owner changes this issue so the soup isn’t salty anymore and I hope he finds a different way to make the soup more flavorful without using so much salt. It’s not needed and kills the flavor of the dishes where all you taste is salt and nothing else. Sadly this place has potential and I’ve been coming here for 2 years since they opened, but no more until they get that salt issue fixed with all their dishes and find another ingredient to use besides adding salt as their main ingredient. For now guys, I’d suggest you just go to Pho ABC! It’s a bit better and their food is way less salty. Trust me, I won’t be eating here unless this salt issue gets fixed and I advise you to do the...
Read moreBeen here a few times and although the place is a pho restaurant. I don't come here for the pho. It's a bit too healthy for me. No msg and overall fairly bland broths and the sauces available barely help. It's definitely not catered for Asians, at least not the Asians who normally eat at pho places near South Sacramento (Saigon, pho Xue La, pho bac hoa Viet, etc.....). When I do get pho it's a special order of the crazy pho King pho with spicy ox tail broth. The ox tail base broth is significantly more flavorful than their standard broth and it comes with all the meats from the crazy pho King though you do have to pay a bit extra.
What I do come here for is all the other food selections like their bahn mi, rice paper rolls which are pretty much fancy spring rolls cut like sushi, egg rolls (these come with extra sides like lettuce, daikon, carrots to eat with), the milk teas, and Cajun chicken.
I really enjoy their bahn mis as they really load it with your meat of choice and their bread isn't as hard as all the other places I've been too. The meat itself is seasoned and cooked well. Often times the meat is still juicy and warm. The bahn mi comes with a side of dipping broth and you can make it an ultimate by adding in an egg and Avocado which I normally do. I've had the pork belly, charsui pork, and the BBQ beef brisket. You can't go wrong with any of those three.
Service is good when we eat in. Went there during covid and they have outdoor dining with heat lamps. One time we got a mini lamp for the table. The waitresses and waters are attentive, often coming to check on you every 10-15 minutes.
The place itself is usually kept clean includi the bathrooms.
Overall I like the food selection outside of the phos and will keep...
Read moreI had big hopes. ordered a combo pho, meat was already cooked and seemed kind of old, like mushy and beginning to tear apart. I like to see my raw meats with hot soup to cook the meats. had dumplings in the combo I ordered. I must of missed that on the menu but I don't think dumplings have a place in a noodle dish. seems more of a way to entice the dish by adding more stuff. broth was bland I added 2 scoops of hot oil to no avail. I had a hard time trying to take the bowl down, not trying to waste money. had 2 pieces of tendon that were very hard. usually I like mine soft and with just the pressure of chopsticks I should be able to cut through the tendon. these were not that soft. in a way seemed like I was getting someone's left over from yesterday.. thats what was running through my mind the whole time. the pork belly banhmi smelled of raw pork. but soup that came with banhmi was good and hot, if that would have been the broth for pho it would have been much better. spring rolls were cut into sushi like rolls with sauce alrdy on them/ placed in sauce. some may like the sauce but I would have prefer to dip as needed, and because they were cut into sushi like rolls it dried out the rice paper making it hard. saw the place from a tictok review.. they obviously don't know what they are reviewing. I traveled over 45 mins away. this is in a predominantly Russian/, Mexican, and White part of town. maybe they have different taste buds, but it didn't hit the spot for me. the resturante seemed very upscale to have such limited resources as disposable chop sticks and only 2 napkins for table of 2. sadly, even if I was in the area I would opt out. they do have food...
