My husband and I used to love this place. The high prices didn’t bother us because the service was great and the prime rib WAS the best in town. Living over 60 miles away we hadn’t been in a while. We were greeted with the same excellent service as usual. Selected a wonderful wine and chatted while waiting for our food. Here’s where things went wrong. The prime rib that used to melt in your mouth was chewy, gristly and appeared to have been sliced hours earlier. Previously, the $36.00 plate came with a salad and your choice of side. NOPE, not anymore, house salad only. (We paid an up charge for a Caesar side salad, which is no longer prepared table side.) Sides to this now unappetizing hunk of meet require an up charge. So, plan on adding another 9-14 bucks for a side. You will however get a mini potato (silver dollar size) and carrot for presentation. Now for my plate. I ordered the macadamia nut crusted halibut over coconut jasmine rice. This USED to be my favorite alternate to the prime rib. The macadamia nuts were burnt, and the rice had been molded into a pile of mush with the consistency of cornmeal mash or watered down polenta. The fish was a bit slimy like it had been steamed. They did nail the sauce, however it was enough to mask the poorly presented meal. I couldn’t choke down my plate and left the leftovers to the trash. $120+ dollars later for two and we even skipped the sides. Maybe it was a one off or a bad night for the chef. We may try again in a few months based on their passed history of a good meal, but as for last night, something went terribly wrong. Two stars given for the service and ambience and minus three stars for the price of the...
Read moreI honestly wasn't that impressed with this place. Not even so sure I would ever go back. Between the slow service and the food portions, I'm not a fan. As we arrived we where promptly seated (we had reservations). After we where seated it took approximately 15 minutes before our drink order was taken and another 20 minutes before or drinks had arrived. As for the food, I ordered the sirloin with mushrooms. Something about the mushrooms and wine sauce sounded amazing. The plate also comes with garlic potatoes and green beans. I also ordered the upgrade for $10 which consists of crab meat, asparagus, and a cream sauce. The steak and mushrooms were okay. The portion was decent. The potato was awesome. Very flavorful, however it's just a smear on the plate. Maybe a tablespoons worth. Was bummed about that. As for the upgrade, I personally don't think its worth it. For the money you get approximately 1 snow crab leg of meat, 4 pieces of asparagus that are 2" long and it's all covered in a sauce. So Between the slow service and smaller portions, I don't really see myself going back. Anyways, this was...
Read moreThis was our first time in Cactus Creek. First thing I would say is. Cigarette smoke from the casino filters through the restaurant. This restaurant is much in need of an overhaul and an updating. I would say the wait staff and service was excellent. Our server was very professional and polite. The food on the other hand I would say is very mediocre. Not quite what I expected for the price. I definitely expected better quality. I would definitely say that some of the food is not made from scratch. We ordered two top sirloin steaks. One steak was huge the other one was tiny. The tiny steak was overcooked. We ordered all- carte baked potato for $8. Way overpriced for the quality and the size. The plate was screaming hot however the potato was luke warm. He couldn't even melt the butter. My wife ordered the chicken marsala. Chicken was a little bit overcooked however risotto was perfect. To my surprise. When when the waiter asked if we wanted dessert. We politely declined. His reply and I quote "You would probably get something better at home anyway" This was just our experience. Definitely...
