I would give this place -2 stars if I could. My wife has an anaphylactic allergy shellfish and peanuts. We took my sister out to dinner at LuLu this evening, which is her favorite restaurant in the Tri-Cities. I called the restaurant and spoke to the manager a week before we visited to ask about how they handle cross contamination and allergen accomodations in their kitchen, and he assured me they were capable of serving us given her restrictions. When we arrived, I also relayed her allergies to the waitress, and she assured me the allergens would be on the ticket and that the kitchen staff could accommodate her meal.
She ordered the fish tacos and felt her throat swell after the first bite. I went to find the manager and asked AGAIN, and he just said that her was sure there was no issue of cross-contamination. My wife spoke to the waitress and well, and she said the same. NO ONE CHECKED WITH KITCHEN STAFF! And to top it all off, we were charged for the meal and the drink she ordered right before eating, neither of which she could not take another single bite or drink of as she tried to control her reaction. We keep an Epi pen and benadryl on us at all times, and luckily this time the benadryl was enough to keep her throat from closing.
This is a serious issue, someone could be killed from eating at this restaurant. If you have food allergies, I would stay well away from here. If the kitchen can't accommodate an allergy, just be honest about it so people know they can't eat here!
Note to the Owner: Thank you for your prompt response. I would like to speak with you further about this incident. I am a Health and Safety Professional and I take matters like this very seriously. I don't want anyone else in our community becoming ill because of a lack of training and understanding. Does your restaurant have an email address I could contact...
Read moreLulu’s manager is delulu. We ordered the Thai noodles and steak. The Thai noodles were just a 50 cent package of Top Ramen or Maruchan, and much of it wasn’t even cooked. We asked the waitress if it was grocery store ramen, then more specifically if it was Cup of Noodles. She said no it wasn’t a cup. I asked, “was it a rectangular package?” She didn’t answer my question LOL. She said she’d be back after asking for an adjustment. The manager came over and we said, come on man, this was a bag of ramen, not Thai noodles. He said very tactfully “they’re Asian noodles” and we showed him that some were uncooked and still in square form. He said it’s a big meal, the noodles are artistic, and that this was for “crunchiness” LOL. We continued, he said the meal was $20 and came with steak — yep. 3 little slivers of it. He refused an adjustment.
I said I’d hold a special place in my heart for this restaurant, as it reminded me of my college days when I was broke and ate ramen. Sorry, I mean Thai noodles. Times are tough, let’s source our ingredients from Walmart.
The waitress gave us a bit of attitude at the end telling us that if we didn’t want to pay for the food that we shouldn’t eat out. LOL She was alright, but had some attitude. I suppose her and her manager get along well.
She asked if we wanted dessert at the end and I said no thank you, we’ll just go to the gas station up the street for that, and maybe some more Maruchan too. Go to Drumhellers down the path for some real food and a better view too. You’ll pay more for it but you won’t be scammed.
What’s even funnier is I’ve actually been to Thailand, my step-mother is Thai, and I’ve had real Thai noodles. Maybe if I ever return I’ll bring her to see what her review is as a native. The view is nice but Drumheller’s is better. Lu Lu is a joke,...
