Wouldn’t recommend. The owner Thomas denied to serve us and accused us of having fake identification. The atmosphere was very hostile after that interaction.
My boyfriend and I gave Thomas our ID’s and we noticed him fiddling with them by the bar for a few minutes but didn’t think much of it. Then Thomas returned and told us he was not comfortable serving us and accused us of having fake identification and that he “Wasn’t going to play games”. My boyfriend and I are both over 21. My ID is horizontal (WA), my boyfriend’s ID is a vertical format from Florida. I’ve never had such an inappropriate and unprofessional interaction like this before. Such a shame a cute hangout spot like this is being managed by this individual. The name “The Peacock” is very fitting now that I think about it!
Edit: To respond to what you just said, totally understand the seriousness about ID laws. You have the right to refuse us. As a customer we have the right to leave a review if you refuse us for a reason that we feel is unfair. Firstly yes he did hand a vertical license. Florida vertical licenses DO NOT expire on your 21st birthday. There is even an expiration date clear as day that shows this, his expires in 2030. All it means was it was issued before 21 but does not make it invalid to serve if they are 21 or older now as they can be issued for 5-10 years past that date. To also say this was about the damage on our ID which are both in great condition seems very intellectually dishonest as does your comment about my boyfriend yelling to staff. Here’s what he said when he came back in verbatim “Can I get a name” (you gave your name and then said you can legally refuse) “I understand you can refuse us we are leaving a review” then you said “go ahead and write a review about you underage verification” which is why I said we were accused of having fake ID and why I don’t think this is about the damage you specified. He replied “Underage Identification???” (in a frustrated tone sure but hardly justifiable in being called yelling) you replied “I’m not saying yours” he replied “My girlfriends?” You replied “I’m not playing games” and he replied “You have taken enough Washington ID you should be able to see it’s real” then left, frustrated sure, but not yelling. If you’re rendition does not align with this I’m happy to hear it but this is what happened, I can understand not wanting to play guessing games with IDs and refusing is okay, but as the refused we are justified in leaving a review for it.
**Btw finding my instagram shortly after I posted a review is strange behavior. Hope you saw the 21st...

I was in downtown Richland today and stumbled across Peacock Roasting so I was very excited to see what they had to offer. The storefront is well appointed and seems cozy inside. The hired staff was friendly. After purchasing a bag of their Guatemalan light roast I asked if they had a recommended ratio for espresso and a man at a table who I assumed to be the owner, proceeded to "educate" me on espresso. He was rather condescending and seemed annoyed as he told me that the Guatemalan was a "coffee" bean, not an "espresso" bean therefore I would not be able to actually make espresso. I told him that I have been using light roast coffee for espresso for quite some time and I just need to adjust a few parameters to pull a decent shot. He went on and on about how you need a dark roast coffee for espresso and that I was incapable of making espresso with the beans I had just purchased. After I arrived home, I confirmed the man at the table was the owner.
After pulling a few shots to dial it in my grind settings, I found a sweet spot of 27 seconds @ just over 38g yield. The shot itself was pretty good with fruit notes forward, a mild toffee/chocolate flavor that slowly creeps in a few seconds later, all with mild acidity. After tasting the shot, I decided to add hot water to make it an Americano so I could enjoy it a little longer.
Even after enjoying the Guatemalan from Peacock Roasting, I was left with a bad taste in my mouth from the owner and will not be back. It's too bad honestly as I am always looking forward to having more local options to choose from, but I will stick to my normal roasters.
From Wikipedia:
"Espresso (/ɛˈsprɛsoʊ/ (listen), Italian: [eˈsprɛsso]) is a coffee-brewing method of Italian origin,[1] in which a small amount of nearly boiling water (about 90 °C or 190 °F) is forced under 9–10 bars (900–1,000 kPa; 130–150 psi) of pressure through finely-ground coffee beans. Espresso coffee can be made with a wide variety of coffee beans and roast degrees. Espresso is the most common way of making coffee in southern Europe, especially in Italy, France, Spain and Portugal. It is also popular in Switzerland, Croatia, Bulgaria, Greece, and in Australia."
"Espresso is both a coffee beverage and a brewing method. It is not a specific bean, bean blend, or roast level. Any bean or roasting level can be used to produce authentic espresso. For example, in southern Italy, a darker roast is generally preferred. Farther north, the trend moves toward slightly lighter roasts, while outside Italy a wide range is...
Read moreWent there to get a couple drinks with a friend. Neither of us drink as we're both in recovery and specifically wanted a coffee. They've got a wheel of indecisiveness that allows you to spin and get a $1 off of a choice between an alcoholic shot or a coffee (or apparently a baked good). First spin was cold brew, and they were out of cold brew. Second spin was a Tabasco coffee and my friend cant handle spice so I took it instead. Spun again and it was a baked good. Spun it one more time and got something that sounded good. Now at this point the owner goes off saying how we Spun it multiple times, we might as well just get whatever coffee we want and still get the discount this and that. Went off for at least a minute about this in the most rude, condescending, uninviting, and disrespectful tone I've ever seen from any customer service employee in my life. Honestly, if it was such a big deal we would've been fine with just not having the discount - we weren't even doing it for the discount, we just didn't know what to get and thought it'd be fun to have something picked for us. The new shop is great and the coffee drinks are good, but the customer service is the #1 priority of a business, and I feel let down in this regard. I didn't come at this guy with any disrespect, I actually came in and complimented him on his new shop, so for him to attack us like that took me my surprise- I genuinely didn't even know how to respond. This, combined with the fact that this guy roasts his beans with a machine that uses pre-made recipes from the company that sells the machine and coffee beans, is why I will, under no circumstances, be returning here. This place is really good and I had nothing against it, but just from reading other reviews, this guy just needs to learn how to...
