Crossroads' coffee and teas taste delicious, the food is of the quality of the pre-made selections found in airports. Whether its the drip coffee or a latte, things are delicious, and its plain that the beans and leaves are high quality. Crossroads is frustrating when it comes to the service and atmosphere. As other reviews have mentioned, anybody can understand closing down indoor accommodations during covid, however covid restrictions have long since ceased. There is still only outdoor seating and no access to indoor bathrooms; its plain that Crossroads has enjoyed the increased profit from reducing the overhead cost after closing indoor service. Frugality of this sort on behalf of a service establishment is insulting to customers at the least, especially when considering that the prices at Crossroads are what would be expected at a full service establishment. It is possible that I have had an unlucky draw the last few times I have gone, however it seems that the 16oz serving size for the drinks at crossroads is more of an indication of the size of the cup it is served in, rather than the quantity served. The 16oz cups are usually filled to the top of the drink sleeve. A point worth mentioning is that they follow the same practice as other establishments in prompting the customer to enter a tip amount for the employee who took the order. There is no pre-set "$0.00" and the customer must skip to an additional page to input no tip. These screens on a POS terminal are customizable by the establishment and the tactic of making it as difficult as possible NOT to tip is blindingly obvious to patrons. Impeding the check out process by asking for tips for workers who legally must be compensated at the state minimum wage is detrimental to the livelihoods of service workers who actually depend on tipping for support, because state and federal laws dictate that they can be paid a "servers minimum" which usually falls below...
Read moreI have been to this cafe several times. The atmosphere is cozy, with ecclectic decor, decent customer service, and good location off of Forest Hill Road. It is almost across the street from Forest Hill Park. There is not a lot of parking space available, and sometimes it can be hard to find a parking spot.
What I like to do, if it is a nice day, and I have extra time on my hands, I will park at the Forest Hill Park and walk to the cafe.
Food and beverages are decent. Good selection of coffee, baked goods and ice cream. I once ordered a chicken salad sandwich, and it was good, but portion size was small, and I was still hungry. And I would not recommend this place if you want a quick bite to eat on the cheap.
There is not a lot of room to sit down inside if it gets busy, and this place does get busy. The last time I was there, it was on a week day, about 11 am, when I would think most people would be at work, and Crossroads was packed with people. I'm always happy to see local businesses doing well. If there are no seats inside available, there is usually a seat to be found at their covered...
Read moreLet me begin by saying that I have tried pretty much every place that offers desserts in or near Carytown, and this place definitely hit home with me. The sweet potato bun cake is one of the most amazing things I've ever had- it was soaked in some kind of syrup so that the cake retained moisture and a soft but not mushy texture. The lemon meringue pie... I can't say enough about it. The filling is tangy and sweet and the crust was a flaky, toffee-ed masterpiece. I ate both pastries... which says a lot, since I really try to take care of my health and neither of the desserts fell under that category. Definitely worth every calorie though. :) The reason I deduct a star is because of the attitude of the staff... quite unfriendly and demeaning. :( It was pretty early in the morning and not too busy either, so I don't see any excuse for the rudeness- but the desserts are definitely something I...
