DO NOT TRUST YOUR SPECIAL OCCASIONS TO WPA BAKERY.

My sweet husband just called me devastated over his experience with WPA. He had ordered a vegan birthday cake for my birthday today, and was so excited to go pick it up. He had been talking about my “birthday surprise” for days now. He knows my favorite cake use to be Black Forest cake and he was so excited to have found a bakery who was willing to veganize it for him, special order.

When he arrived to pick up the cake, he was told they dropped the cake. Then, the lady who dropped the cake, instead of just being apologetic, had the audacity to make it seem like it was my husband’s fault. She said she dropped the cake moving it out for sale, because he hadn’t picked it up. Which is ridiculous because he special ordered the cake for my birthday and was picking it up on my birthday, as he told them he would.

Their only offer of compensation to make the situation better was to offer him another cake as a replacement — But as vegans, we obviously have no use for, or desire to pay for a regular cake.

Mistakes happen. Accidents happen. I am sympathetic to this. But its how you fix a mistake when you make on, that I judge a business for. Having ruined my husband’s special birthday surprise, WPA really did a horrible job helping my devastated husband. They offered no apology or adequate compensation, and then tried to blame it on my husband, which only added insult to injury.

Do not trust your special occasions to WPA. They do not care about their customers. And if they ruin your occasion, you won’t so much as get an apology. When my husband called me heartbroken to tell me my surprise was ruined, I told him to cheer up and just go to Minglewood Bakery instead and pick up some vegan treats. Minglewood saved the day. He should have gone there to begin with. I hope other’s benefit from my husband’s mistake and are spared the heartache of seeing their special...

My husband and I visited Richmond for the first time and we were very purposeful in trying out Richmonds best rated bakery, WPA Bakery. The line was almost out the door when we got there about 10:30am. Our order was taken at 10:56, so there was a little bit of a wait which gave us time to look around the quaint, no frills shop. We ordered a blueberry muffin which was enough to share between two people but would have been more exciting with a handful more fresh or frozen blueberries inside it. Our delightful surprise was the vegan housemade biscuit sandwich with fresh fluffy scrambled eggs, vegan sausage patty and cheese. HOLY SMOKES! My husband and I shared it and it was beyond delicious. The biscuit came out hot and was so tender and bigger than expected. It deliciously held its shape to correctly sandwich the freshly prepared egg and fillings. SO WORTH THE WAIT! When you serve me something as delicious as this, I can see why the line was out the door. Finally, I, personally am a neat freak, so my rating overall isn't a 5 because it did seem a bit neglected in this area. I understand the rustic feel of Richmond's history, but cleanliness does contribute to an overall enjoyment of the food, vibe, experience, and helps me to feel confident that the kitchen is as clean as the tables I am sitting at. This is totally correctable with a bit of regular TLC, and some maybe wouldn't care as much but to some it's why we would rate a...

This place was so amazing that I had them make my wedding cake-- which was also amazing. It was so moist and delicious-- we were so sad halfway through our honeymoon when we realized we'd eaten all the leftovers of it that the caterers had packed up. The "top tier" was there, and they also made a small "anniversary cake" for us to freeze and eat on our first anniversary together-- completely free. This place was a steal for what we wanted-- my friend living up in Richmond actually brought it all the way to Maryland for us, and they had packed it to arrive alive. Making my mouth water remembering eating it now and it was 3 years ago! The only reason I'm writing this review is that I had a random midnight craving for it and am considering asking my husband to come with me for a weekend to Richmond just to get it again. Was looking it up to see if it still exists and I'm so happy that it does! This place...

This was my first time here, so I didn't order that much, and there wasn't much available when I was there, but what I did order was okay. Service was nice and friendly The caneles we're good but would have been better had I gotten there closer to when they were made. They were tender and not dry and not overly sweet. Nothing I would make a special trip for though. The chocolate muffin was dry and somewhat Bland but had nice notes of spice. The mushroom stuffed pastry needed some moisture and salt, but the breading was excellent. The pies looked really good so I'm going to come back and try other things and then adjust my review.

The store is cute; the staff are friendly and welcoming. We saw lots of parents with their kids when we were there on a Saturday morning. We got two biscuits with ham and egg and no cheese, along with a spinach & feta pastry to go. The biscuit sandwiches were huge and filled us up easily. It was really good texture wise, but I’d prefer it to be less salty. I had to remove the ham slices to make the whole sandwich more edible to me. But I know this is just my personal preference. On the other hand, the spinach & feta pastry was phenomenal. I’d get it again! If you get coffee, there are half & half and oat milk for self service. .

I picked up a lemon cake for my wife's birthday. I did not realized when I ordered it that WPA specializes in vegan, gluten free, etc. The lemon cake that I got was not the typical artificially colored, artificially flavored lemon cake that we love and are used to getting. This cake had a less intense, but a more natural lemon flavor and color. It was a bit unexpected, but the more of it I ate, the more I enjoyed it. It was very moist and had a homemade quality. I would definitely go back to try some of the their other offerings. Knowing they have healthier options that are just as tasty make them all the more appealing.
