DO NOT TRUST YOUR SPECIAL OCCASIONS TO WPA BAKERY.
My sweet husband just called me devastated over his experience with WPA. He had ordered a vegan birthday cake for my birthday today, and was so excited to go pick it up. He had been talking about my “birthday surprise” for days now. He knows my favorite cake use to be Black Forest cake and he was so excited to have found a bakery who was willing to veganize it for him, special order.
When he arrived to pick up the cake, he was told they dropped the cake. Then, the lady who dropped the cake, instead of just being apologetic, had the audacity to make it seem like it was my husband’s fault. She said she dropped the cake moving it out for sale, because he hadn’t picked it up. Which is ridiculous because he special ordered the cake for my birthday and was picking it up on my birthday, as he told them he would.
Their only offer of compensation to make the situation better was to offer him another cake as a replacement — But as vegans, we obviously have no use for, or desire to pay for a regular cake.
Mistakes happen. Accidents happen. I am sympathetic to this. But its how you fix a mistake when you make on, that I judge a business for. Having ruined my husband’s special birthday surprise, WPA really did a horrible job helping my devastated husband. They offered no apology or adequate compensation, and then tried to blame it on my husband, which only added insult to injury.
Do not trust your special occasions to WPA. They do not care about their customers. And if they ruin your occasion, you won’t so much as get an apology. When my husband called me heartbroken to tell me my surprise was ruined, I told him to cheer up and just go to Minglewood Bakery instead and pick up some vegan treats. Minglewood saved the day. He should have gone there to begin with. I hope other’s benefit from my husband’s mistake and are spared the heartache of seeing their special...
Read moreMy husband and I visited Richmond for the first time and we were very purposeful in trying out Richmonds best rated bakery, WPA Bakery. The line was almost out the door when we got there about 10:30am. Our order was taken at 10:56, so there was a little bit of a wait which gave us time to look around the quaint, no frills shop. We ordered a blueberry muffin which was enough to share between two people but would have been more exciting with a handful more fresh or frozen blueberries inside it. Our delightful surprise was the vegan housemade biscuit sandwich with fresh fluffy scrambled eggs, vegan sausage patty and cheese. HOLY SMOKES! My husband and I shared it and it was beyond delicious. The biscuit came out hot and was so tender and bigger than expected. It deliciously held its shape to correctly sandwich the freshly prepared egg and fillings. SO WORTH THE WAIT! When you serve me something as delicious as this, I can see why the line was out the door. Finally, I, personally am a neat freak, so my rating overall isn't a 5 because it did seem a bit neglected in this area. I understand the rustic feel of Richmond's history, but cleanliness does contribute to an overall enjoyment of the food, vibe, experience, and helps me to feel confident that the kitchen is as clean as the tables I am sitting at. This is totally correctable with a bit of regular TLC, and some maybe wouldn't care as much but to some it's why we would rate a...
Read moreThis place was so amazing that I had them make my wedding cake-- which was also amazing. It was so moist and delicious-- we were so sad halfway through our honeymoon when we realized we'd eaten all the leftovers of it that the caterers had packed up. The "top tier" was there, and they also made a small "anniversary cake" for us to freeze and eat on our first anniversary together-- completely free. This place was a steal for what we wanted-- my friend living up in Richmond actually brought it all the way to Maryland for us, and they had packed it to arrive alive. Making my mouth water remembering eating it now and it was 3 years ago! The only reason I'm writing this review is that I had a random midnight craving for it and am considering asking my husband to come with me for a weekend to Richmond just to get it again. Was looking it up to see if it still exists and I'm so happy that it does! This place...
