Golden Skillet — Restaurant in Richmond

Not sure why this place has so many good reviews. I was very underwhelmed. I ordered the "Chicken Gizzard Meal" ($8) which included a half pound of fried/breaded gizzards, fries, creamy cole slaw and a yeast roll. The best thing about the meal --by far-- was the yeast roll. Second best thing was probably the fries. The cole slaw was, meh.

But the big disappointment was the gizzards. I was so glad to find a place within a 15-min drive that sold gizzards, so it was quite the letdown. I think it's mainly the breading I didn't care for because I removed it from the last few gizzards and they tasted better. I read that Lee's downtown also sells gizzards so I guess I'll give them a try soon, because I don't plan to return to Golden Skillet (though the pricing is pretty good and service...

I hadn't eaten Golden Skillet fried chicken in almost 30 years when I saw this location on my way home a couple of weeks ago. I honestly thought they were all closed! First bite took me straight back to my childhood! I grew up just down the street from this location, and it's still there! Took a couple of pieces to my folks and we cleaned the bones! Went back the next day after church to get a 20 piece, best Sunday dinner in a long time! Highly recommended to anyone who loves GREAT...

My son ordered an 8 piece chicken and it was hard/old and had feathers on the wings. I called female owner (assumably) to discuss with her and she was nasty, didnt want to hear me and was very unprofessional. She then hung up in my face. After 11 months of patronizing this establishment, my family and I will no longer do so. I will also share my experience with friends.
