If I could leave 0 stars I would! We had a party of 14 for a 50th birthday celebration in December! We were assigned two servers, which in the beginning seemed fair. As the evening went on drinks, appetizers and entrées were ordered. About midway through several of us never received drinks that we ordered and our entrées took extremely long. I understand with a large party this can't happen however I feel another server should have been there to assist and they should have done better when the food was finally served as a couple of our meals were served Cool not hot or warm. At the end of the evening we started asking for to go boxes as well as our checks. I lied to you not, it took them seven times to bring me my correct check and at that point it still was not right. The one thing that was wrong on my check was I paid for the birthday girl and she had two lemon drops both with Tito's. If you look at the receipt, there was one lemon drop with Tito's and one charged without. I did not feel like going back-and-forth with the server again, so I decided to just pay it even though it was shorting the establishment two dollars. Myself and the birthday girl both ordered simply salmon. I had Riesling wine and she had her two martinis. This is all in the receipt. She sat at the end of the table and I sat three seats away from her. My receipt shows I paid for people sitting at seats six, eight, and 10. How is that possible if I only paid for myself and one other person? There was an option to pay via QR code on the paper receipt they gave everyone or you could pay directly to the server. A few of us paid online with the QR code the others paid the servers directly. At this point, the servers, both of them were very rude and kept walking around asking if people had paid because they were still showing several of us had not. I began to get frustrated because I had to explain to them. I paid online which you can see in my screenshot receipt, as well as a few other people. One server came over to me 15 minutes later and told me they were able to see that my payment went through so they apologize. 20 minutes later while we are still waiting on them to bring the cake out that we had asked for 30 minutes prior, the other server came over to me and asked me if I paid yet. I explained to them that this is my third time telling you l had already paid and I received my receipt online showing it was approved as the money was taken out my bank account. Five minutes later, the manager comes over to ask me what was the problem with paying my bill! I explained to her that there was no problem because my bill has been paid. She walked away with an attitude. I even explained to them that the first six receipts they gave me were incorrect so I had to walk them through what I actually ordered for the seventh time and at that point as I stated earlier, it was still wrong because the establishment was missing out on two dollars lol. I walked to the bathroom and overheard both of the servers talking junk about our table. They were being very rude and condescending. Both of them were white, and the entire party of 14 were all blacks, the language they used to describe us was very unprofessional and very uncalled for! I have never felt so disrespected in my life! We were so frustrated with the service that we received, as well as the disappointment in how the food tasted. We decided to cut the cake and take slices in to go containers rather than eating there because we were ready to leave. Once we cut the cake and we're walking out, the server said under her breath you all are not welcome here anymore. I turned around and asked her to repeat what she said and she said I still had not paid my bill so we were not welcome there anymore. I hope whoever is reading this gets this to the proper attention because the boathouse at Rocket's Landing in Richmond Virginia will never again, when I’m in town, get my money and nobody else's money if I have anything...
Read moreFirst time here to dine I will never eat their food again. I wish I took the pics I usually do but the company I was with I did not pull out my phone. Starving when I arrived, long trip had taste for a nice steak since their pics on site looks good. Very deceiving. Appetizer calamari..it was just ok sat crispy well the batter is and it falls off the meat so not that great would not recommend. The view was beautiful, people are nice, gets crowded we went around 5-6pm. Ordered the salmon first for my entree presentation was it looked overcooked then inside was super pink. I sent it back could barely cut the skin!! The reason for 3 starts for service is because that should not have left the kitchen I was the manager at Mississippi steak and seafood in the showboat casino years ago and that was 5 stars consistently no food should leave the kitchen looking like that. I sent that back. Figured the cook could not get that right ordered the filet mignon 😕 figure it would come out looking like the pic. Ordered medium anyway it was not the cut of beef I was expecting it was over mashed potatoes which were just ok a little runny for my taste asparagus was just ok none of it was seasoned to perfection. And the filet did not even stand upright it was more of a burger cost $44 covered with all this brown gravy and mashed down, grissle and had to use my napkin to remove something that I could not swallow. I just ate it by this time starving and for people to say the food is high end . The place is the food is the worst and see my reviews I give excellent reviews to this places worthy of such. No recommendation to return to eat here..island shrimp is next door!! Best to go there to eat and maybe drink at the boathouse..both views are beautiful and people nice.. great parking..drinks great at both. Service was ok at boathouse she was nice. But the food coming and serving at the table when it does not look like any pic they show on site is deceiving.. inconsistent and no seasonings is trash to me. Not highly recommended especially if you are super hungry you will be disappointed. Drinks you will be ok with no real buzz with happy hour drinks unless a few beers. Overpriced food not worth the squeeze!! A NO for ME and my company said the same the only thing good was the brussel sprouts..if you need to eat save
your hard earned $$ and eat those it is safe and will be served hot and worth the $ . Then go dine for a real cut of beef elsewhere Richmond City has many better places for food . Not...
Read moreWedding Reception Theft
Before sharing my experience with Housepitality Events and the Boathouse for my wedding reception, I’d like to preface with a few things. The food at the boathouse is a 5/5 star as well as the service we received from the waiters, waitresses, cooks, and bartenders. I’ve dined here many times in the main dining area and have never had a poor experience.
Despite this, I’ve had to move forward with leaving a 2 star review. Here is why:
We hosted our wedding reception at the Boathouse at Rockett’s Landing event space back in February. The gift table, placed in a location recommended by the Housepitality event coordinator, was robbed at the start of our wedding reception. Staff became aware of the theft after my husband and I walked in for our first dance. After making our families aware of what occurred, Housepitality staff refused to call the police despite being asked multiple times. Eventually a family member decided to call the police despite the staff’s resistance as it was an active robbery. This allowed almost an hour for the thief to get away. We also learned that The Boathouse does not have surveillance cameras in the event space.
Our wedding night was spent in tears as well as the past two months trying to work with Housepitality‘s insurance company and staff. A few thousand dollars worth of items were stolen. The insurance company has denied our claim, as the Boathouse and Housepitality are not liable for unattended items. Please note that our Housepitality provided event coordinator verbally agreed to move our items into the bar to be watch. This was never done. Additionally, the police investigation indicates that the suspect likely responsible for the theft was hired to work that evening at the Boathouse.
After a review was written, the Boathouse offered to provide a small refund. Although this refund was well received, the amount provided does not cover the value of the stolen items in full.
I share these thoughts and words to reflect on for those interested in hosting a future event with Housepitality and the Boathouse. Once again, I want to say that the service and food are incredible - all of which are provided by the Boathouse. However given the theft that occurred and the associated response by staff members, I’d strongly recommend hiring security if you plan to have guests bring gifts into the...
