Apparently, Cock of the Walk was voted best catfish in Mississippi. While I’m not sure if I’d 100% agree, I will say that the catfish and my meal as a whole was delicious. There are two locations in the greater Jackson area, and while out of my way, I decided to go to the location where it all started...on the reservoir. The restaurant is huge with plenty of seating. There were several rooms and steps...it was a bit chaotic. We were hesitant at first, because some of the empty tables were noticeably dirty. We were initially seated in one of the smaller rooms and it was really loud due to another table. We asked to be moved and the host was happy to do so. The new table was great and we had a lovely view of the reservoir. Our waiter was the best, super helpful and willing to offer suggestions. The menu is limited, so we each ordered the Catfish Keelboat and shared a pot of greens and fried pickles/onion rings. We had a lot of food and left with enough for lunch the next day. All of the food was great. The catfish came with pickled onions, coleslaw, hush puppies, french fries and cornbread. If only the catfish was thinner and fried just a bit more crispy, it may very well be the best in MS. With thicker pieces, you sometimes lose the flavor on the outside. The tarter sauce was perfection! They should sell it by the jar in my opinion. After eating, we went outside and walked along the reservoir. There were a bunch of ducks, so this would be a great restaurant to bring kids. I’ll definitely return.

Outdated and old (translated gross and unclean). I'm not sure the health department could find more dust and grime than on the walls and decor hovering in every space and corner. They obviously have not looked at it as you can see the filth a mile away. Maybe because so many LEO come here and it's protected? The heater is cranked up so high that everyone is sweating when it's 45 outside. Cooks intimidate the wait staff it appears as we overheard them saying they can't approach the chefs about the food or they will yell at them. Who runs a place like this? Oh yes, that's right, the younger lady with brown hair who came out to tell the hostess about how much cash they would be keeping in the register right in front of a customer. Very disappointed in what I was told was a local favorite. Food was meh. Service even less so. I think smiles and cheer are in short supply here. Maybe watch a few episodes of restaurant impossible or kitchen nightmares for some recommendations on a huge overhaul of the whole place. My dollars beg to be spent elsewhere.

We came here today to celebrate my brother's birthday. We reside in Texas but Mississippi is our home state. This was a good experience. We wanted something different from the commercialized restaurants we have back home. We wanted southern down home comfort food. That's exactly what we got! They only have chicken and catfish to choose from but you do have the option to get it grilled if wanted. It comes with corn bread, coleslaw and pickled onions. Your protein choice comes on a bed of fries with hushpuppies. You have the option of adding a pot of greens, which we did. They bring out the slaw, cornbread, onions and greens first. We were literally full from the sides before the protein even arrived. That coleslaw was delicious. I'm not even a coleslaw fan. Sitting by the window looking at the reservoir made the experience even better. I didn't get any before pix but I did get the aftermath!

I don't like to put up bad reviews especially about local businesses, but hopefully management can use some feedback to make the necessary changes. We came here because it was referred to us. But we would not recommend it and definitely not be back. It was surprising to have a 30 minute wait at 4:30 on a Saturday when the place looked only to be about half full. It did fill up to near capacity by the time we finished, so I don't know why the delay in getting people in to begin with. Even when we were taken to our table it wasn't very full. If that was my only concern, I would not leave this review at all. So the reason for the review is mostly the really bad food. To give at least some credit where it is due. The cole slaw was really good. They brought out a little marinated onion with the slaw that was really good and the hush puppies were good. The catfish was really disgusting though. It just really tasted dirty like the oil hasn't been cleaned in ages. Even with a bunch of sauce to try and mask the dirty taste, no one in our party could bring themselves to finish a single piece of catfish. I love catfish, but this was the worst I have ever had and it wasn't even close. The chicken tasted ok flavor wise, but it was horribly soggy and oily. Not a bit of crispiness to it. The cornbread was dry and flavorless, improved only by adding a whole lot of butter to it. The fries were floppy, semi-cold, and getting to the chewy stage.

Our server was totally polite, but I don't know if she just had too many tables, or what. We didn't have napkins or silverware until well after our food came out and we had to ask for them. Our drinks never got refilled without us asking every time. Never once were we asked how everything tasted because we would have let her know it was really bad. After our food came out, it took her 5 more minutes to get us some sauce, and then we didn't see her again for over 25 minutes.

Ultimately, with a menu of only basically 2 main items and a handful of sides, your 2 main items should be fantastic. The chicken was not good, and the catfish was over the top bad. If I made it at home and it tasted like that, we would throw it in the trash and go out to dinner.

Who knows, maybe we just caught them on...

New Review: I used to love this place. However, the last few times have been abysmal. This last time sent me over the edge. On 03/25/2023 we showed up about 1800 for my dad's 76th birthday. Our party consisted of five adults and one infant. We had to wait about 40 minutes to get seated. No problem, I get being busy. Then, we were seated at a table that was set directly against a giant pole eliminating one of the spots for someone to sit (we were a party of six). No one saw us for about 30 minutes. We asked one waiter who was assigned to our area (downstairs and to the right) if someone was going to take out drink orders. He said he would get our waiter. We waited another 30 minutes and nothing. I was so very embarrassed. We had a cake and party glasses on for my dad whose only birthday wish was for some catfish and nobody even took our drink orders for over an hour. I got up and went to the front and asked a lady if we were ever going to get waited on. She said she would take care of it and asked where we were seated. I went and sat down. We waited another ten minutes and, again, nothing. We decided to leave. My father was so disappointed. On our way out we saw a new waiter and my mom asked him if he was supposed to be our waiter. he replied, "yes, I was about to come see you." My mom informed him that we were leaving. His only response was, "oh" and he walked off. We ended up going to Ichiban in Madison and had a great time. This is only the latest of three terrible experiences we have had. I hate that it has gone so far downhill. There are many options for catfish in the area, choose a different one.

Review from years ago, things have changed: "You get a whole lot of very high quality food! And if you don't order the pot o greens you are missing out. The waiting staff are fun and friendly. Only 4 stars because of how crowded the tables are...it cant be helped I suppose but it is a...

I would love to give 5 🌟. After you read the review you'll understand. The 3 🌟 are for the food & Jett. My sister & I, walked into the door, the lady said two? My sister said yes... very, very poor service when walked in the door, three people was in the corridor, the lady to the left she was short, dark skinned, on her phone, the man with the nail polish on his phone, laid back in his chair, the lady on the right medium height, light brown skinned, on her phone. No one greeted us, until I made a funny look, then was greeted, only by the man, they acted as if we was inconveniencing them, dark skinned lady seated us, walked away, said nothing else. We waited 10 minutes to be served, I was going to call the front until a nice man named Jett came over to get our drink & food orders. Food was excellent. Jett, was a excellent waiter. Next, very laughing, talking and what sounded like arguing coming from the staff from up front, next thing loud cussing rap music started blaring in the back ground, finally got it turned down, it was after closing, however my sister & I, plus other customers were still in the restaurant eating. I had to use the restroom before leaving, the man with the nail polish said I could, with a frown, nawl baby you can go, you can go, half way pointed in the direction, no lights was on in the restroom & it was DIRTY, toilet paper all over the floor & it smelled, I had to turn on my cell phone light to use the faculties. No one even greeted us upon leaving, until we said thanks. I really did enjoy the food, as a restaurant worker myself, I could never and would never act that...
