My dad and I just recently moved in the area and were very excited to give it a try. Our first visit left us uninterested in returning anytime soon. First, when my father tried to order a 14” pizza he was told he could only do a 10” because it was 1/2 price pizza night and it would need to be my main meal as well to get the bigger size. In reality, my father can eat a 14” pizza by himself, so this was off putting and he ordered something else. I then ordered the quesadilla on the menu which was listed with garlic, pesto, mozzarella, Italian seasoning, and I added chicken. I received a quesadilla with just chicken and yellow cheese. When I said something, she took it back and then returned almost 10 minutes later with the original quesadilla stating “No one ever wants it that way, so the kitchen doesn’t know how to make it. But do you want something else?” At that point my father was over halfway through his plate, and I was honestly just extremely baffled by that response so I said no. She said she’d take it off the bill, so I figured it is what it is - even though I was still extremely baffled that the cooks didn’t know how to make something on the menu? I ate 1 of the 4 triangles, and there was so much cheese globbed on there (also not hot anymore by this point) that I felt like I was going to choke on it so I just put it aside and ate no more. Again, being told it was going to be removed from the bill I just said whatever, as long as it’s free I’m not even worried about it. We got the bill, and the manager or owner or whoever had only removed 50% of the quesadilla price….I was completely mind blown after how obscene that experience already felt. My dad was so aggravated and felt so bad for the server knowing it wasn’t her fault, that he just left cash to pay and tip and wanted to get out of there as quick as possible. He didn’t feel like getting in an argument after so much frustration in such a short time. Very disappointing as we’d always prefer to support locally owned, but this experience left a...
Read moreThe Fish Fry is Excellent It's been several years since we went to the Rusty Nail for fish so we gave it another visit and we're glad we did. Located in quiet little Ringwood, their parking lot, especially on fish fry Friday, is packed, but we did find a spot. There are many dining areas inside and all were pretty full, but we opted to eat out on the back patio taking advantage of the warm weather. The patio is huge and there was only one other couple there when we sat down. A few more groups sat outside during our visit. My wife ordered the Reuben Sandwich ($13.00) and a side salad for an extra $1.50. I ordered the Friday Fish Fry Special which is all you can eat haddock, baked, beer battered, or a combo of both for $16.00. I know they have several beers on tap, but don't recall what I ordered. I do remember that a 'tall' was only $3.50 and that's a pretty good deal. It was just a short wait for our meals to come out. The Reuben is a stack of juicy, tender, tasty, thin sliced corned beef piled high an marble rye with just a bit of sauerkraut and 1000 island dressing with a side pickle. The side salad had fresh greens and veggies and my wife had the house made creamy garlic dressing which our server recommended - and it was a great dressing! My fish plate had two portions of baked fish and two beer battered and fried filets. Joining the fish was a pile of what I think were battered french fries. A super light crunchy coating over the potato fry and the inside was nice and soft. The baked fish was seasoned well, just the right amount of salt, paprika and maybe some house blend. The fried fish was just the way I like it. A very thin batter covering a thick, flaky fish. The flavor is very much like the usual cod you see at fish frys. A few dabs of melted butter and fresh lemon on each bite just made both styles of fish even better. Tarter sauce is available for those that want it. I'm a big eater and had no desire for more fish, but it is all you can eat. This has to be one of the best fish...
Read moreMy wife and I went at 8pm on Friday night. They weren't busy, considering the time and day. The bar was busy but not the restaurant. There was plenty of servers working but they all seemed stressed and in a huge hurry, despite what seemed like there being a server for every two tables. The servers were still friendly, attentive, and quick, but their level of stress carried through the service and was somewhat uncomfortable. The menu has a lot of nice options but about 1/3rd of them are marked as unavailable on Fridays, which is just weird. Why not just have a menu specifically for Fridays? Full entrees and pizzas are not available on Fridays. What restaurants do that? No pizza on Fridays? C'mon! The food is moderately priced and presented nicely but, it wasn't good. We had the shrimp de jonghe appetizer which was very overcooked, it tasted good but the shrimp was too tough. My wife had the fish fry and she complained that the fish was overcooked. I had the black and bleu burger, which was done right, but the burger itself was just... meh. It tasted and looked like it was cooked from frozen. The side salad was really good. This is the third time in about two years we've been to the Rusty Nail, it's not very convenient for us to visit, and each time we've had issues with the food, but after this time I don't think we'll be returning to dine here. The overall quality of of the food just doesn't add up...
