The Mill Coffee and Eatery — Restaurant in Roanoke Rapids

My fiancé and I stopped here on our way home from vacation on Tuesday, August 1st, in attempt to support a locally owned business. Unfortunately, our experience was very icy. Upon walking in, we were the only ones except for two ladies who worked there- one was a lady with brown hair and glasses, who was laying on the couch with a blanket. She barely greeted us and begrudgingly came to the counter. We had been traveling for hours and my fiancé asked to use the restroom while I checked out the menu. While he was in the restroom the young lady with brown hair wrote a note on the check pad while the other lady looked on. I saw them. They looked at me and then looked at each other and she ripped off the note and threw it away. Could be harmless but as a person of color, I’ve never felt more unwelcome. My fiancé came out and though I wanted to tell him about the coldness I was experiencing while waiting we went ahead and ordered because I didn’t want to make an issue of it. He ordered a BLT, I ordered a taco salad and a cup of chicken and rice soup. My fiancé said the BLT was good. The taco salad was basically chili on top lettuce. The chicken and rice soup was lukewarm at best. Upon leaving, an older gentleman walked in and was greeted much more cheerfully and warm than we were. Our company ordered boxed lunches (anywhere from 10-20 each day) from The Mill for an ongoing training we were hosting for our employees. We sent in the order each morning and upon arriving at our requested time, we were greeted with a smile and a helpful hand to load the large, sturdy bags of completely ready and always accurate boxed lunches into our car! Extra utensils and condiments were always included and the boxes were each labeled for easy distribution. The lunches got superb reviews and the variety allowed attendees to have something different each day of the three day training. We highly recommend The Mill for both in-person dining, takeout, and larger order boxed lunches and will definitely utilize them for future...

Edit: Thank you for response. I didn't know about your staff. I find that very commendable!! I apologize and certainly do understand now. Waitor was very polite, and prompt. Also, as I stated earlier...presentation was beautiful and environment was very nice.. accidents happen everywhere. The presentation was nice with the wraps that looked like newspaper. The portions were really small. I had potato soup and half turkey sandwich. The soup was not even warm. Would not melt cheese. When waitor asked how it was I told him. He said he would let them know. He came back with full receipt, no offer to warm soup. Nice environment...but left feeling unsatisfied. Would have been nice to at least...
