Rocket Cafe — Restaurant in Robinson

Rocket Cafè is truly a hidden gem. Best diner in Waco. We just moved to Robinson and stumbled across this cafe. It is an old school diner. It’s been there since 1961. Great service; our server was amazing; super cool and down-to-earth country style. I had the chicken fried chicken, mashed potatoes with brown gravy and green beans; the food was dynamite. Chicken fried chicken was tender, the breading was thin and flavorful. The mashed potatoes tasted like my mom’s and the brown gravy was tasty. The green beans were tender but not soft; full of flavor. My wife had the strawberry chicken salad and she loved it. I can’t say enough about this gem but I highly recommend it. The place was clean and we didn't have to wait to be seated. Our waitress was NOT friendly. She never smiled. She took our drink order and asked if we were ready to order. We just got the menu. I said "Not yet" and she seemed put out. It was like this the whole time. We were never rude but I was upset to find out that my husband left her a tip. She was that bad. I ordered the biscuits and gravy and the biscuit was soft and probably wonderful, but I had sausage gravy over it that was extremely salty. Not impressed at all. It’s not often I review anything other than burgers and Mexican food. However, my son insisted on eating at one of our old local haunts. I’ll start with the bad…. Got the BBQ Sandwich lunch special. BBQ came from a tub, tasted like instant mashed potatoes, and the baked beans were from a can. The good news is, it was still good and reasonably priced.
