The service we got today and the food was atrocious. I've been a patron of Bonsai since they opened and have eaten there hundreds of time. The service and food was always really good. Today is a whole different story however. The staff acted like it was an inconvenience for them to wait on my family and I. Even vacuuming the entire dining are while we were trying to eat so we couldn't have conversations. We ordered 2 meals and 3 sushi rolls. The meals were okay, nothing really great like when I'd eaten there before, but the sushi was terrible. 2 of the rolls were so hot spice wise that we couldn't eat them. My husband is from southern Mexico and is used to eating really hot food, and he couldn't even eat them. And it's not like these were new dishes we ordered to try, these were things we'd ordered numerous times in the past and I know they're not supposed to be that hot. However, when I brought it to the attention of the server her only solution to me was to ask me if I wanted more to drink to combat the heat, but not to actually rectify the problem. Finally I told her to take it off my bill, and she got all sarcastic with me and rolled her eyes. Another server over heard us and said the manager was up front by the register so I asked if they could bring him to the table. The manager couldn't even be bothered to come over and just told the server to take one roll off and that was it. I'm not sure if the restaurant is under new management or what, but the quality of the food and the service has gone down hill...
Read moreWell presented, but underwhelming sums up my experience dining here.
I ordered quite a number of things for dinner, i have a hearty appetite and feel as though i had a fair example of what they offered.
Fried tofu: just fine, exactly as expected and no complaints from me.
Egg Rolls: Run of the mill, the same egg rolls you get from just about any restaurant. no real complaints on taste here.
Crab Rangoon: I had high hopes when they brought these out; large and bulbous from being absolutely stuffed with filling. I was disappointed to find no crab (artificial or otherwise) in them, these were just cream cheese wontons.
House Special Udon Noodle Soup: Again, high hopes when they brought this out. a large bowl full of meat, fish cakes, and mushrooms with udon noodles served in broth was how it was described. Fish cakes were just imitation crab chunks and the broth was incredibly weak and bland, i was expecting udon soup broth and what they used was probably wonton soup broth if i had to take a guess. the meats served in it were not marinated or seasoned and just quickly grilled and thrown into the udon. overall this dish was disappointing and i ended up not finishing it because it was just so bland. cherry on top was the deep fried shrimp served on top. maybe im just picky because im from the gulf coast, but this shrimp had the fishy "old shrimp" taste to it.
Overall, i was disappointed in the taste of the dishes at Bonsai, but will state that everything was visually well made...
Read moreThis review is not on the sushi, just main dishes and overall experience. We first walked in and we were not greeted but stared at for a few seconds, then was told we could sit wherever. We were planning on getting the sushi till we saw they were all between $10 and $20 for a roll containing 4 pieces. So I ordered the Udon noodle soup. The ingredients were classic Udon noodles which were good, fried chicken, grilled chicken as well, fish cake that was actually beef died pink on the edges, huge chunks of quartered mushrooms, big slices of carrots, and some green onion. The broth was much different than any other Udon I've had before but it wasn't bad. The chicken also made it very oily. Overall eatable, the chicken was good till it got too soggy. The beef lomein my wife ordered was tasty and worth while. The atmosphere was awkward and uncomfortable. There was no music playing which made conversation very easy to hear. We weren't checked on after our food was served till after we were finished and didn't get any refills. To be fair we were only in for 20min. The service was also a little too casual, but friendly. The decoration and seating was good and comfy. Was just missing some...
