Prior to being hired as a manager, I hadn't eaten a single meal, or even walked through the front door of Garrett's.
My first interview was with Nicole L. Nicole is still a manager, as well as the special events & private party coordinator. She was immediately very welcoming, and extremely passionate about Garrett's and her position. After being hired, and as time went on, I was continually learning from Nicole. She is definitely the glue that holds this place together. She has a great rapport with hundreds of patrons, and always makes them feel at home. Nicole knows all there is to know about Garrett's. She can cook you a meal, make a delicious drink, and never let's a guest leave unhappy.
The best part of Garrett's, in my opinion, is the staff. I have been working in the food service industry, on and off, for the better part of ten years. In that time, I never ran across a staff as educated, friendly, professional, and team oriented as the core staff that Garrett's employs. Whether it be daytime, and you get Cary, Michelle, or Laura......or dinner and you're served by Ryan, Emily, Bre and Jackie....You're in great hands! These folks have been employed here for years, and it's obvious why. These folks work as a team, help eachother out, and do whatever it takes...to ensure Garrett's maintains its reputation as an upscale & eclectic setting.
Nicole works hard to ensure Garrett's Bar always has Fan favorites, as well as many tasty beers on tap that you've never heard of....and won't likely find anywhere else in town.
The food speaks for itself. Jump online, or call in to check out nightly food and drink specials. The head chef Isreal is always coming up with incredible dishes sure to please your palate.
My experience working, managing, and dining here, was overall a positive experience. The staff is top notch, the food is delicious/well-prepared, and the interior has a very classy atmosphere(although dress code is anything from shorts/jeans to a suit & tie.
Stop in to Garrett's enjoy a great meal, a beer you've never heard of, and tip your...
Read moreThe food here is very good and delivered very quickly, even on busy nights. Beer selection has old favorites and an eclectic craft choice that changes often enough to be interesting. Service is friendly - the bar staff got jokes and they have fun with their guests.
I'm just disappointed that the last 3 times I've visited, when the front bar room as well as the rest of the restaurant is absolutely not anywhere near busy, the waitress (this has been the case with at least 2 different wait staff) seems to forget the beer I ordered - it sits, long-since poured and getting warm and flat - at the end of the bar, while the server stands at the POS talking with co-workers. I have had to ask a second time for my drink each time. This is why my visits have been pretty few and far between, where, before covid, I was happily visiting weekly. I know times are tough for wait staff, and I love to tip high for good service, so this has been a bit...
Read moreThe food was delicious. We were there on St. Patrick's day but not for the festivities. Bar was full but dining room room was quiet when we arrived right at 5 trying to beat crowd. Husband really enjoyed the Reuben egg rolls which was appetizer with plenty to share. Lobster bisque was enjoyed by 2 in our party who had it. I order salmon at most restaurants and Garrett's was superb. I wondered if the maple glaze would make it too sweet for my tastes and it did not. Loved the candied pecans also. Wait staff were decked out for St. Patrick's and were hustling, efficient and helpful. Dining room filled up quickly with families and 2 parties of 6. Everyone seemed comfortable and well taken care of. We live in Michigan but have family in Rockford. It had been several years since we had been to Garrett's and were pleased to find it continues to be...
