Read moreI was recommended this place for good Mexican food. The parking was really easy with an elevator entrance right around the corner. We got there around 5pm, the restaurant was pretty dimly lit already. They turned the lighting even further down part was through the meal. The place looked more bar than restaurant. We were seated in a corner at a split table(two 2 person tables put together). The tables weren't level or even to each other. I'm not sure if it was from being in a corner with two hard walls (one brick, the other wooden mural)) but the room was loud. I could barley hear across the table. On my sound meter it averaged 81 decibels. I was surprised at the limited menu. One side was drinks the other page of the laminated paper menu was the menu. I wanted a chicken burrito. Surprisingly, that was not an option. I ended up with a chicken chimichanga, my wife carne asada tacos. I also ordered hand cut fries, and two items from the happy hour menu. Mexican meatballs and chicken sopas. We quickly noted there was little flavor to anything and the skill to cook or prepare any of it was basic at best. I could have cooked any of the meal at the same or better quality at home. Usually, one goes to a restaurant to enjoy a higher level of food than you make in your home daily. This was not the case. The carne asada was bland and tough. What I mistook for flavoring was my wife putting lime on it. My chimichanga was just a boiled shredded chicken with onion. Even the sauce on top was bland and basic. I was surprised by everything being garnished with parsley. The meatballs had no flavor. The flavor came solely from the green sauce they were sitting in that seemed off the shelf. They didn't even absorb into the meat. Hand cut fries must mean uneven cuts. They were over cooked and lacked proper salt. My wife ordered a jarrito. It came in a plastic bottle. There was no offer of a glass or straw or anything, just handed a bottle like it was 7-Eleven. Over all the food was mediocre at best. As a bar this place is probably fine, but as a restaurant I would...
Read moreTo set the scene, we had take-out from this popular Tex-Mex restaurant during the pandemic and I was excited about dining here as we got the chance. On a beautiful day, we opted (like a lot of people) to dine outside before sunset. While the servers kept up generally well with the many diners both inside and out, the food in first "dine-in" experience left quite a bit to be desired. On the other hand, a tequila-based cocktail and sangria were nice. We had guac and chips to begin. The unattractive and unsalted chips (which didn't appear to come from tortillas) were thick and less than flavorful. (How often would someone be disappointed by tortilla chips?) The guac and salsas were fine, but uninspired.
As for my wife's chicken fajitas, the serving was small, and less than creatively or well-made. Particularly disappointing was my beef short rib birria burrito. The meat lacked flavor and spice, and there was no broth or consommé to dip the burrito into. The result, I would recommend folks stay away from this offering.
It could be that we ordered some items that weren't among the restaurant's strongest offerings. In fact, I'm thinking that's the case. But these are also dishes that should be hard to fail with.
Would I give it another shot? Perhaps. There are better restaurants nearby offering Tex-Mex. Nearby Taco Bomba is light years better at a lower price, including a bar, although it is casual dining. Not that this is fine dining, not at all.
Some folks outside had young children and dogs, which was obviously convenient for them. That might be a lure for some who have the same pets and kids in tow.
There's plenty of parking nearby, although it can take some time to find open spots during busy times. There's surface parking, street parking and...
